Sevilla v Chelsea Recent Form
Sevilla are on a fine run of form. The Spanish side have won each of their last five matches including two UEFA Champions League fixtures. The Blues continued their unbeaten run at the weekend. The 0-0 draw with Tottenham was their 11th successive match without defeat in all competitions stretching back to September.
Sevilla v Chelsea Recent Matchups
It was 0-0 the last time these two sides met back in October. There wasn’t much to shout about during the draw that probably suited both teams. It was the first time these two clubs have ever met in an official UEFA match but the Spanish side have regularly come out on top against English opposition.
Sevilla v Chelsea Stats & Analysis
Indeed, Sevilla have often been the bane of English opposition. This will be the fourth time in just over three months that Sevilla have come up against Premier League opposition. They haven’t lost any of them after the draw at Stamford Bridge and wins in consecutive Europa League rounds against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United in August. Sevilla have lost just one of their last 10 matches against English opposition in Europe and that was against Leicester City back in 2017. Their record against English teams in Seville stands at one loss in six.
But Chelsea have been in fine form of late. They’ve gone from strength to strength on all fronts with just one defeat in their last 14 matches. They’re scoring goals for fun with their summer signings, in particular, finding the net with some consistency. Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, and even defenders Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell have found the net for them lately.
But what stands out for Chelsea is their defensive solidity. Frank Lampard’s men have really strengthened up at the back after a run of seven clean sheets in their last nine matches in all competitions. Only one team has scored fewer goals than them in the Premier League but none have conceded fewer than them in the UEFA Champions League. That late Serhou Guirassy equaliser against Rennes was the only goal that the Blues have conceded in four European matches this season.
Sevilla v Chelsea Bets
That just gives them the slight edge in this match according to the bookies. Chelsea are the favourites by the slimmest of margins to secure the win at 13/8. The hosts are just behind at 15/8 in what the bookmakers expect to be a tight contest. A draw is 5/2 which would certainly suit Chelsea considering they have a superior goal difference.
Anything other than a defeat will set Frank Lampard’s men on the path to top spot in the group and a Chelsea win or draw double chance is 1/2 if you fancy them to do it. Given their defensive record, it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see them shut Sevilla out in this match. It’s 7/2 for the Blues to win to nil or 11/1 if you fancy a repeat of the reverse fixture and for this one to finish goalless.
Chelsea have shown consistency in one aspect this season. They led at halftime in three of their four Champions League matches this season with the only other one finishing 0-0 against Sevilla. Only Bayern have been on track to take more points than them at halftime this campaign. It’s 12/5 for the Blues to be leading at the break or 4/1 for them to be 1-0 up.
Chelsea are blessed with some outstanding attacking players right now. Timo Werner is the chief amongst them and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him continue his excellent goalscoring form in the Champions League. The Germany international is 15/8 to score at any time here. Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic are good options at 7/2 and 11/4 respectively to do the same. Lucas Ocampos is the man to watch for the hosts and is a 9/4 anytime goalscorer.
