Here at Bettingexpert, Tom Winch has put together a prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview ahead of the Champions League match between Brest vs Real Madrid. Both sides are guaranteed a playoff spot. If there is to be a winner, then a potential top-eight finish could be secured.

It’s a monumental clash for the home side in their debut campaign in the Champions League. Eric Roy’s side has performed excellently despite the size and value of the club. The fans will be beyond proud. The French side are outsiders, but don’t write them off.

Brest vs Real Madrid Prediction: Kylian To Spearhead Three Points

Europe, Champions League, Wednesday, January 29th, 20:00 (UK)

Eric Roy has worked wonders at Brest. The Frenchman was appointed in January 2023. Stade Brestois 29, located in Western France, finished the 22/23 season in 14th. Remarkably, Eric Roy guided his side to a third-place finish in 23/24. The club earned Champions League football for the first time in its history. Brest will continue into the knockout phase playoffs no matter the result on Wednesday night, a fantastic achievement.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Los Blancos are one of the competition favourites. It’s a squad filled with talent. Interestingly, Real Madrid are 16th after seven matches. Three points here could catapult them into the top eight, but that also depends on other results. Real have had a relatively tricky Champions League schedule. The La Liga league leaders have faced Stuttgart, Lille, Dortmund, Milan, Liverpool, Atalanta and Salzburg. Earning 12 points from seven outings isn’t exactly impressive. Real Madrid is a side that seems to hit their peak when it matters.

The hard work is complete from a Brest perspective. A home clash against Real Madrid is what they could only have dreamt of in times gone by. They’ll give it their all at Stade de Roudourou. Brest’s actual stadium, Stade Francis-Le Blé does not meet UEFA standards. It’s perhaps even more impressive that they’ve performed so well on neutral ground. The two stadiums are situated 70 miles apart.

Kylian Mbappe returns to his homeland. He’ll be the man many will have their eyes on. Real Madrid’s sensational forward scored a hattrick over the weekend, extending his La Liga tally to 15. The Frenchman has found the back of the net three times in the Champions League this term. He has every chance of increasing that figure on Wednesday night. Kylian has scored nine times in ten previous appearances against Brest. The hosts will be wary.

Ancelotti’s men are clear favourites in the betting. The Asian Handicap is set at -1.25. Real Madrid boasts an xGD/90 of 0.46 across their seven matches. That’s the 12th best. Despite their position of 13th in the table, Brest’s figure is -0.25. That ranks them 23rd from 36 teams. Eric Roy won’t care. His side is valued as the 30th most expensive squad in the competition. It’s not bad, considering they’re languishing amongst the best sides on the continent.

How can we ignore Kylian Mbappe? He’ll be raring to get back on the pitch after scoring all three goals against Valladolid on Saturday night. It’s now five consecutive matches where he’s found the net. With Vinicius JR suspended, the opportunities should fall to the Frenchman at a consistent rate. He’s bang in form, and it could only be a matter of time until he unleashes a strike into the opposition’s net. The bookmakers expect goals with the line set at 3.25. Backing one of the most talented forwards on the planet looks like the best angle to consider.
