Liverpool are the favourites, and rightly so. They’ve started well under their new coach. Alonso is back at Anfield. His Leverkusen will know the challenge ahead but have the capabilities to leave with a positive result.

Liverpool vs Leverkusen Prediction 1: Back Reds In Tight Contest
Europe, Champions League, Tuesday, November 5th, 20:00 (UK)
Liverpool’s start to the season has been impressive. Arne Slot has joined the club and implemented his style. It’s still a work in progress. The Reds are top of the Premier League after ten matches and are one of two sides that have won each of their three Champions League matches.
Everyone knows about Bayer Leverkusen’s phenomenal 23/24 season. They went unbeaten in the Bundesliga and won the DFB Pokal. Xabi Alonso’s men reached the Europa League final but were humiliated 3-0 by a fantastic Atalanta side.
Leverkusen’s defence was excellent last term. They conceded 24 goals across 34 league matches. After nine outings in 24/25, the champions have shipped 15 times. The clash at Anfield will be their biggest test yet.
Despite all the attacking talent, I’m not expecting this game to rain goals. Four of Liverpool’s 15 matches have seen four or more goals, two of those arrived in cup matches. It’s less chaotic under Slot.
Leverkusen will be aware of what’s to come. I’d expect Alonso’s side to respect Liverpool and almost look to nullify any attacking threat. The Germans play a 3-4-1-2 formation. They can limit and be limited themselves in attack. The visitors gave up 0.28xGA and four shots over the weekend against a strong Stuttgart team. When Alonso and his men faced Bayern, they managed just 0.06xG and three shots.
Backing Liverpool to avoid defeat and for this game to have three or fewer goals looks like a good angle. This selection has banked in ten matches from 15.
- Liverpool vs Leverkusen Prediction 1: Liverpool Or Draw & Under 3.5 Goals (TRACKED BET)

Liverpool vs Leverkusen Prediction 2: Two 100% Records
There’s a magnitude of markets available for this encounter. I’m backing a two-player selection that has superb statistics. The two names in question are Alexis Mac Allister and Mo Salah.
The Argentinian has been magnificent since moving from Brighton. Alexis featured in 33 Premier League matches for the Reds last season. Liverpool’s number 10 has started nine of ten games this term. He’s started all three Champions League matches.
Mac Allister’s foul numbers are remarkably consistent. Across his 13 appearances across the Premier League and Champions League, the Argentine has committed a foul in every encounter. He’s busy and isn’t afraid to put in a challenge. Liverpool’s man has received two bookings in this competition.
I expect another combative display where he commits a foul to continue that impeccable record. It’s the first part of the selection.
Mo Salah. No words are needed. What a sensational athlete and footballer. The Egyptian has begun the season immensely. Salah has scored nine times and recorded seven assists this term. He’s a man that can produce a moment of magic from nowhere.
Across the Premier League and Champions League, Salah has recorded 25 SOT in 13 matches. His record is perfect in 24/25. No side has prevented him from hitting the target. He’s in terrific form. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t continue that tally on Tuesday night.
- Liverpool vs Leverkusen Prediction 2: Alexis Mac Allister Over 0.5 Fouls & Mo Salah Over 0.5 SOT (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.80
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 3/10
Liverpool vs Leverkusen Prediction 3: The Egyptian King
How can I keep away from talking about Mo Salah? He’s a Liverpool legend and is still at the top of his game. There are few players better than that Egyptian at the time of writing. Mo has recorded 16 goal contributions across 15 appearances this term. That’s nine goals and seven assists. I was looking to back the forward to score here, but I’m happy to take the score or assist selection.
Salah has already equalled his Premier League assists tally from the 20/21 season. He’s made five this term across ten outings. The forward’s best return is 13. I expect him to get to that tally with relative ease.
With the fierce Liverpool attack, there’s no wonder Salah is racking up the assists. Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz should all feature here. It’s an exciting offence. Only Forest has prevented them from scoring this term. Liverpool have scored multiple times in 12 of 15 matches.
Leverkusen have shipped 15 goals in nine Bundesliga matches. Alonso’s men have achieved three shutouts in 12 across their league and Champions League outings. I’m not sure that they can maintain a freighting Egyptian.
- Liverpool vs Leverkusen Prediction 3: Salah Goal Or Assist (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.72
- Bookmaker: Betfair
- Stake: 3/10

Liverpool vs Leverkusen Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups: Hosts Without Key Names
The home side will be without Alisson, Jota, Chiesa and Harvey Elliott. Those four players won’t be on the sidelines for much longer. They’re all expected to return later this month.
Ibrahim Konate was substituted after landing awkwardly against Brighton. It’s unclear if he’ll feature on Tuesday night.
Alonso will not have Amine Adli or Nordi Mukiele for their encounter with Liverpool. Adli has a broken leg whilst the Frenchman suffers from a hip injury.
Liverpool possible starting lineup:
Kelleher; TAA, Gomez, VVD, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, Salah, Nunez
Leverkusen possible starting lineup:
Hradecky; Tapsoba, Tah, Hincapie, Frimpong, Xhaka, Andrich, Grimaldo, Wirtz, Terrier, Boniface
Match OPTA Stats: Two Strong Sides Collide
- Liverpool have won three of their four UEFA Champions League matches against Bayer Leverkusen, losing the other 4-2 in the second leg of the 2001-02 quarter-final and going out on aggregate.
- Bayer Leverkusen have only won one of their 11 away major European matches in England (D3 L7), beating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in November 2016; they’ve lost both of their two visits to Anfield.
- Liverpool have lost one of their last 21 European meetings with German opponents (W14 D6), with that one defeat coming against Bayer Leverkusen in 2002. They’re unbeaten in 13 games since then (W10 D3).
- Liverpool have won all three of their UEFA Champions League games under Arne Slot, while only once previously have they won their opening four in a single campaign – in 2021-22 under Jürgen Klopp (first seven), when they finished as runners-up overall.
- Since the start of last season, no team have won more games (11) or scored more goals (37) in European competition than Bayer Leverkusen. The German side’s only defeat across their last 17 games in Europe came in last season’s UEFA Europa League final (0-3 v Atalanta), winning 11 and drawing five of the other 16 matches in this run.
- Liverpool have been ahead on the scoreboard for longer than any other team in the UEFA Champions League this season (213:47), with the Reds leading for 73% of their total match time so far. However, Bayer Leverkusen are one of only six teams to have not been behind at any point of the 2024-25 edition.
