Getafe vs Atletico Madrid Prediction - Premier League Fixtures
The La Liga title contenders return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon and our expert Nathan Joyes has provided his Getafe vs Atletico Madrid Best Bet, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
Getafe arrive in-and-out of form – a theme of their campaign – which has kept them looking over their shoulders, sitting just six points away from the relegation zone. Having lost the reverse leg 1-0, as well as being hammered 5-0 in the Copa del Rey, you have to go back to 2011 the last time Getafe beat Atletico in any competition.
Atletico Madrid may have one eye on their Champions League fixture against Real Madrid, but with the title very much still within their grasp, Diego Simeone won’t be resting his key players.
Can the visitors keep the pressure on Barcelona at the top?
Getafe vs Atletico Madrid Prediction: Incredible record set to continue
Spain, La Liga, Sunday, March 9th, 13:00 (UK)
Getafe have only played three home games in 2025 but have failed to win any of those. Although they took a point from Barcelona, whether it was deserved or not was another question.
They also head into this having lost three of their last five, falling to defeat against Leganes, Betis and Atletico Madrid in the cup. Lacking an out-and-out goalscorer has been one of their main issues this season, where midfielder Mauro Arambarri (6) leads the way. Preferred forward Borja Mayoral only has four, having scored 15 last campaign.
And heading into this fixture with just four goals from their last five games, it’s clear why they aren’t out of the woods just yet when it comes to avoiding relegation.
To make matters worse, their record against Atletico Madrid is truly woeful. You have to go back 30 matches the last time Getafe beat Atletico, and having already lost twice to them this season – without scoring – it looks set to be another difficult afternoon for the hosts.
Diego Simeone will be keeping one eye on their second leg Champions League tie against bitter rivals Real, but sitting just one point behind Barcelona, their title charge remains firmly on track.
That has most certainly been down to the form of Julian Alvarez, who heads into this clash having scored four in his last five matches, including a stunning strike at the Bernabeu on Tuesday evening. The Argentine was an expensive investment, but one that is seemingly paying off.
Resting key players isn’t an option, and their dominance over Getafe this campaign has been prevalent in the league and cup. The bookmakers are offering a rather generous looking 2.0 for the visitors to pick up three points, who are perhaps factoring in Atletico’s fixture list.
But Simeone’s side have been excellent on their travels. Having picked up just one point less than Real, they’ve done so in two games less, and if they can shut Getafe out once more, a single goal could be all it takes to keep the title race wide open.

Getafe vs Atletico Madrid Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups
Getafe welcome back defender Domingos Duarte, who missed the trip to Leganes after serving a one-match suspension for receiving a red card against Betis. The 29-year-old is likely to slot straight back into the starting XI.
Although forward Borja Mayoral hasn’t been able to replicate his form from last season, he has scored in two of his last three matches – he’ll be their main threat on Sunday afternoon.
Atletico Madrid are more than likely going to stick with the same XI they fielded midweek against Real Madrid, with both Antoine Griezmann and Julian Alvarez set to lead the line.
Despite scoring one goal more than Griezmann, Sorloth (9) will start on the bench and be brought on if Atletico are chasing the game at any point in the second half.
Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Rico, Gonzalez, Djene, Sanchez, Arambarri, Terrats, Bernat, Uche, Nyom, Mayoral
Atletico Madrid possible starting lineup:
Oblak; Galan, Lenglet, Gimenez, Llorente, Lino, de Paul, Barrios, Simeone, Griezmann, Alvarez
