By now, most football fans around the world will have heard the name Estevao. That’s because the 17-year-old wonderkid has been the best player in the league this campaign. Leading the way with the most goals (12) and assists (8) in the league, the latest young prodigy from Palmeiras’ academy has delivered better numbers than a certain Neymar when he first debuted for Santos.

Last year, it was Endrick that carried Palmeiras to the title, and this year the baton has been passed over to Estevao. He single handedly dragged his team over the line in games, where he scored the winner in a 1-0 win vs Gremio when last seen at home.

With three goals in his last five matches, confidence is high and head coach Abel Ferreira will be eager to get him back in the camp after international duty. He missed the trip to Bahia midweek, and you can see his absence weighs heavy on the team.

His unpredictable nature makes him unbelievably tricky to keep quiet. Although positioned on the right-wing, Estevao has shown multiple times this season he can score when either cutting in or going the long way around his opposing full-back.

The teenager can drop deep and shoot from range, already adding a phenomenal amount of screamers to his catalogue. Up against the worst team in the league, Estevao is a great price to find the back of the net and help keep his side in the title race.

Atletico GO vs Palmeiras Prediction 2: Title race to continue

Whatever happens midweek against Bahia, Palmeiras are not out of the title race if they win their remaining matches – especially with a home match against league leaders Botafogo around the corner.

And this match is another huge opportunity for the visitors to claim three points and potentially close the gap. Palmeiras won the reverse fixture 3-1, although they were helped out by an own goal when leading 2-1.

As mentioned in the intro, Atletico GO aren’t bowing out of the league easily. They’ve not conceded at home in their last four matches, and on their small pitch, they’ve proven difficult to break down.

Admittedly, the teams they have faced have been towards the bottom of the table, but they’ve been well drilled – and Palmeiras might not be able to find their usual rhythm throughout the 90 minutes and will have to earn any points they pick up.

Palmeiras also lost last time out on the road against Corinthians (2-0), but more than had their chances when the match was scoreless. They’ll need to learn from their mistakes and bury one of them, but with so much on the line, Ferreira knows how to win these tight affairs towards the end of the season.

Having played three days before, and with Botafogo four days later, Ferreira will have to manage this game to perfection. If his team are winning by two – or perhaps three – expect the likes of Dudu, Estevao and Raphael Veiga to be substituted and protected ahead of the biggest game of the season.
