Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao Prediction - La Liga Fixtures
European hopefuls are back in La Liga action on Sunday afternoon and our expert Nathan Joyes has therefore provided his Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao Best Bet, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
Since Sevilla’s 4-1 defeat against Barcelona, they’ve gone four unbeaten, including two wins on the road against Valladolid and more impressively, Real Sociedad. Europe isn’t completely out of the question, but eight points behind Betis, Sevilla can’t afford any more slip ups.
Athletic Bilbao are sitting pretty in 4th, but having just won once in their last five at the time of writing, there’s work to be done to maintain a Champions League spot for next season. Can they hold on? Nathan looks through their chances on the road this weekend.
Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao Prediction
Spain, La Liga, Sunday, March 16th, 15:15 (UK)
Goals have been hard to come by for Sevilla in front of their supporters. However, after early season struggles, the hosts head into this match having scored in their last six home games across all competitions.
Although they’ve only won two of those – against Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo – Sevilla have only fallen to defeat once – and that came against Barcelona in a 4-1 loss.
But they’ve shown steady progress in recent weeks, and their two big wins on the road will have filled them with plenty of confidence – and hopefully they can start to replicate those results back at home.
Although their opponents head into this in 4th place, Bilbao’s away form in 2025 has been concerning. They’ve only played five matches but they haven’t won any of them (D2 L3). Outside of their usual surroundings, they’ve struggled.
However, scoring hasn’t been an issue. Bilbao have scored five goals in those matches – only drawing a blank away to Atletico Madrid – a side that rarely concede on home soil. Earlier in the campaign, these two sides shared a 1-1 draw, largely thanks to goalkeeper Alex Padilla’s last gasp on goal for the Champions League chasing side. He’s now plying his trade in Mexico for UNAM.
Since that match, Sevilla have improved. They were fortunate to come away with a point, but now the form book has reversed and the hosts will be confident they can try and get the win and push on for a Europa League spot.
Over the course of the season, despite Bilbao’s dip, they have the 5th best away record, scoring 18 goals in 13 matches – more than Rayo Vallecano, Betis, Mallorca and Getafe. They can serve it up to Sevilla and get on the scoresheet, but they’ll need to improve drastically at the back to keep a clean sheet – and I can’t see it happening.
Admittedly, this hasn’t been a fixture to normally produce goals, with only two of the last five head-to-heads producing BTTS Yes. Yet with Sevilla leaking goals at present at home and Bilbao unable to produce their best away, this game could be more open than the prices suggest – especially with the hosts desperate for victories.

Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups
Sevilla’s Nemanja Gudelj remains sidelined with a muscle injury, while Akor Adams has yet to return to action since picking up a thigh injury last month. Chidera Ejuke scored the winner against Bilbao’s main rivals last weekend, which was only his second goal in 17 La Liga appearances.
Bilbao face Roma in the Europa League on Thursday evening, and so there could be some tired legs heading to Sevilla. However, Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta will return after his suspension, although Dani Vivian will miss the trip due to an ongoing muscle injury. Gorka Guruzeta is set to lead the line, but the Spaniard hasn’t scored in his last three matches.
Sevilla possible starting lineup:

Athletic Bilbao possible starting lineup:
