5. Posting tips
5.1 How do I post tips?
To post tips you must first register with bettingexpert. Then click on ‘post tip’ in the top right corner of the bettingexpert website. On the first screen of the post tip form you can select your event by either manual search or begin typing the teams/players involved and select from the drop-down menu. Once you have found your desired event proceed to the next screen where you can input the details of your tip.
Select your bet category, bet type and other prediction specifics. Note: some options only become available when selecting certain bet categories and bet types. Next you must select your desired stake. Odds are automatically added once your tip has been entered, with the highest odds at the top of the list.
The final stage of post tips to to support the prediction with an analysis. See the sections on analyses below for more details.
The final screen is a confirmation of your tip.
For full details about the rules of the tipster competition click here.
5.2 What happens if I make a mistake in my tip? e.g. I selected the wrong bet type.
You should always double check your tips before you submit them and you should consider our tips as you would if you placed the same bet with a bookmaker – would you expect the bookmaker to change your bet after it was placed because you made a mistake?
5.3 Can I delete a tip?
Tipsters are not allowed to delete tips and even if you claim a mistake was made, tips will not be deleted by bettingexpert unless it is under extreme circumstances, for example, we suspect cheating. Similarly, and for obvious reasons, tips cannot be deleted after an event has taken place. Eliminating the prospect of deleting tips also helps us achieve our golden rule of transparency ensuring that all information that appears on bettingexpert is made in good faith. Please be certain your tip is correct before you post it.
5.4 Do I have to manually update results of matches?
No. Our new post tip system automatically updates the results of events so once you have placed a tip you don’t have to do anything further. Note: in rare circumstances, such as rare bet types in smaller markets, events might not be automatically updated and will either have to be manually updated by the tipster or by bettingexpert.
5.5 Can I post tips in different languages?
You are allowed to post tips in different languages but please note that tips will only contribute towards that language’s respective competition. The exception to this is the Tipster of the Year competition which is awarded to the tipster that generates the most profit over a year in all tips posted regardless of the language the tips are posted in.
5.6 Can I post the same tip in different languages?
No, you are not allowed to post the same tip twice even if it is in a different language. Previously, tipsters were able to translate tips so they were available for different however the rules have changed now since the introduction of the new post tip system so that translations are not enabled any further.
5.7 Am I allowed to post more than one tip per match?
Tipsters are permitted to post more than one tip in the same match, however, the tips must be in different markets and the combined total of the stakes for that match must not exceed 10. The purpose of this rule is that tipsters are unable to stake more than 10 on any tip but also allows them a bit of freedom to tip on other markets. The same rule applies for tips placed on the same event but across different languages – the total tip on any one event across all languages must not exceed 10 units. Please remember that if you do decide to post tips on multiple markets of the same event, the analyses must be different and relevant for that specific tip.
This means for example that if you wanted to post an 8-unit tip on a home victory for a particular event you are not allowed to post more than 2-units on a different market in the same event. This would take the total to 10-units.
There is an exception to this rule in Golf, Horse Racing and Motor Sports whereby tipsters are allowed to post up to 10 units on a win market in addition to a further combined 10 units in any other markets other than the win market. The reason for this exception is that these single events feature many competitors and so we don’t want tipster to be too restricted in these markets which can sometimes only happen once a year.
5.8 Why can’t I place a tip less than 30 minutes before an event?
We want to give users browsing tips enough time to make an informed decision about whether to follow a tip before the event begins.
5.9 Why can’t I place a tip more than 2 weeks before an event?
Although it is true that early odds can provide better value, there are too many factors that can occur that can drastically alter odds so we have decided that to make tips more representative they should be placed within 2 weeks of the event.
5.10 How can I post on the outright winner of a tournament/competition if it finishes more than 2 weeks in the future?
The outright winner category has different rules to regular bets therefore tipsters are allow to place these types of bets even if the competition ends more than 2 weeks in the future.
5.11 What does ‘outright winner’ mean?
Outright winner refers to the eventual winner of a tournament or competition in which there are several games/events involved.
5.12 An event/league/sport/bet type is not available, can I still place a tip on it?
You can only place tips on events supported by our system and which you are able to select on the post tip screen. Previously, tipsters were able to post tips on any possible bet but with the new automatic post tip system this is no longer possible. If there is a particular league/sport/bet type/etc we don’t have which you think we should, let us know.
5.13 How do I tip on ‘xxx’?
To post a tip on a particular event select the correct details from the drop down menus in the post tip page and make sure your tip description is written in the correct manner. You can find out how to write tip descriptions in our tipster competition rules section here. If you are still in doubt about how to correctly post a tip do not hesitate to contact us here and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
5.14 I was told my analysis is not acceptable. What should I include in my analysis for it to be accepted?
We are really not too strict about how you write your analyses and encourage people to discover their own style however all analyses should provide enough information about that specific match to enable readers to make a well informed decision about whether to take the tip. You can include form and head-to-head stats, injuries, fixture congestion or anything else that might indicate why the tip is good value for the odds on offer. The whole idea of the tips section is to provide our users with great tips but also detailed and specific information about sporting events. Minimal or weak analysis without substance will be discovered by an admin and removed. The tipster will be warned but if they continue to post poor analyses they will be banned or face further punishment.
5.15 Am I allowed to use templates in my analyses?
We are fully aware that not everyone that uses the English language site is able to write perfectly in English and so we allow tipsters to utilise templates to a certain degree in order to make their analyses comprehensible. However, this does not mean that your entire analysis can be copy/pasted. You must always make sure that your analyses are largely unique and provide enough detailed information about that particular match. You must always remember that bettingexpert is a site designed to give betting advice to regular users and the tipster competition is designed to make sure we have high quality tips on our site. Therefore tips should be posted in a way that give plenty of information about the event and not text just for the sake of it.
5.16 Is there an upper limit on the odds I can place tips on?
There is no limit to the odds you can bet on, however the amount of units you are allowed to stake depend on the odds on offer for that particular bet (see tipster competition rules for full details). The reason for this rule is that although we want to enable tipsters to tip on as many events as possible, including highly unlikely ones, we also want the competition to reward the best tipsters rather than those who get lucky with very few and then coast through the rest of the month. On the other hand, betting on high odds with small stakes can be considered just another betting strategy (although not one we would generally recommend) and if it works for a tipster then it should be allowed. However, if you do post tips on high odds remember that you should always demonstrate value in your analysis and why it is a good tip despite the odds.
5.17 Am I allowed to add links to my facebook/email/my own website on my bettingexpert tips?
Tipsters are not allowed to post links to other betting tips sites on bettingexpert however you are permitted to link to personal contact details such as facebook and email addresses in the ‘about me’ section of your profile page. Tipsters are not allowed to post any such links directly in tips.
5.18 What country do I select when [a team] is playing in the Champions League?
To post a tip on a Champions League match you should select ‘International’ from the country menu. The country menu signifies the country where the competition is based and not where the team is based. This is significant for competitions featuring teams from different countries.
6. Reporting tips
6.1 What do I do if I see a mistake in a tip?
If you think a tipster has made a mistake in a tip make sure you report the tip to us using our Report Tip feature found in the top right hand corner of the respective tip’s page. There are several options to choose from or alternatively select the ‘other’ category and manually input what you think is wrong with the tip.
6.2 What do I do if I suspect a user is attempting to cheat in their tip?
If you suspect another tipster is cheating or gaining an unfair advantage report the tip using the report tip function. It is not a good idea to publicly accuse other tipsters of cheating particularly if you don’t have sufficient evidence to support your claim because wrongfully accusing people is never nice. The report tip feature is anonymous and thus a safe way of submitting your suspicions without causing disruption to the accused tipster.
6.3 Will I get punished if I report a tip incorrectly?
No. We would much rather a tip is reported and found out to be wrongfully reported than not reported and should have been. However, be aware that we do keep a record of who is reporting tips and if we decide someone is spamming the report tip feature you will receive a warning and possibly further punishment if necessary.
7. Competitions
7.1 How do I participate in competitions?
To participate in tipster competitions, simply register with bettingexpert and then start posting tips. It’s as simple as that!
7.2 Which different competitions exist?
There are three different tipster competitions:
Tipster of the Month
Each month, there are prizes for the best tipsters. The prize pools are structured differently across the different languages. On the English site it is £3,000 overall, and the prizes are awarded as follows:
1st – £1,200
2nd – £500
3rd – £250
4th – £150
5th – £125
6th – £100
7th – £75
8th – £60
9th – £50
10th – £40
11th-20th – £20
21st-30th – £15
31st-40th – £10
Tipster of the Year
Similar to the Most Views competition, the Tipster of the Year is just one prize for all tipsters across all languages. The tipster with the highest profit over a 12 month period (starting from July) will receive a whopping €10,000 prize. There are no prizes for runners-up in this competition. The winner takes it all!
Most views
All tipsters, regardless of which language site they post on, are eligible for the monthly Most Views competition whereby the tipster with the most views (combined throughout all their tips) is rewarded with a €100 prize. The winner, determined through analytics software, is therefore the tipster across all languages with the most page views over one month.
7.3 Am I allowed to participate in competitions in all the languages?
Tipsters are allowed to participate in as many different language competitions as they like as long at they are able to demonstrate through their analyses that they are able to write to an acceptable level in those respective languages.
7.4 How is the profit for tips calculated?
The profit from tips is calculated by subtracting the initial stake from the return. For example if a winning 7 unit tip was placed with odds of 2.9, the return will be 7 x 2.9 = 20.3, so the profit will be 20.3 – 7= 13.3. However, note that the profit calculated from tips can change depending on the bet type selected in the same way that the corresponding bet would be settled at a bookmaker.
7.5 How do you pay out the prizes?
All prizes won on bettingexpert are paid out using Skrill. You can choose to be paid in either Euros (EUR) or Pound sterling (GBP).
7.6 How much time does it take to get my prize paid out?
We payout the prizes between 10th and the 12th of the month. That means that tipsters need to put their info into the prizes database no later than 23:59 on the 9th of the month. If they fail to do so, we will not be able to payout their prize.
7.7 How do I get a Skrill account?
To get a Skrill account simply visit www.skrill.com and create a free account.
7.8 Why does it say “results update pending” next to my profile in the competition list?
It can take a while for tips to be updated in our system so sometimes this message will be shown. Most events are quickly updated automatically however some need manual updating either by us or the tipster, and in these cases this message will also be shown.
7.9 Why does it say “Rookie Tipster – not verified” next to my profile in the competition list?
To be eligible for prizes in our competitions you must be a verified tipster. See “What is a Rookie tipster?” above.
7.10 Why does it say “too few tips” next to my profile in the competition list?
To be eligible for a monthly tipster competition you must submit at least 8 tips in that month.
7.11 Is there an upper limit to how many tips I can post in one month?
No.
7.12 What happens if I post a tip in one month but the event does not happen until the next month – which competition will it count towards?
In the case that an event occurs in the following month after the tip is placed, the profit (or loss) from that event will count towards the next month i.e. the month the event is settled in. Profit is never retrospectively added or deducted from a month’s total after that month has finished.
7.13 When is the deadline for tips in a monthly competition?
The deadline for a monthly competition is midnight on the last day of that month.
8. Misc
8.1 Can I watch live streaming at bettingexpert?
Currently, live streaming is not available at bettingexpert however many bookmakers feature live streaming such as bet365 and William Hill.
8.2 What should I do if I think someone is cheating?
If you notice that another tipster is not respecting our rules then please report them here or via the report tip function. We appreciate all the help we can get from our community in regulating tipster behaviour. Please be aware that honest mistakes can easily be interpreted as cheating so always give them the benefit of the doubt. However, if you do suspect cheating or see any mistakes please report them immediately.
8.3 Do you offer fixed tips?
bettingexpert does not condone match fixing in any way and is absolutely against all forms of fixed tips and match fixing. We promote a fair and honest betting environment whereby people are rewarded for their knowledge of sport and ability to predict outcomes rather than through knowledge obtained through fraudulent avenues. Any tipster suspected of knowingly benefiting from fixed matches providing fixed tips over bettingexpert will be permanently banned and reported to the relevant authorities.
8.4 What happens if the bet I tipped was voided by the bookmaker?
If your tip was voided by the bookmaker then your bettingexpert tip will also be voided in the same manner. You should always research the manner in which bets are voided because this can change depending on the bookmaker. For example, some bookmakers do not void bets when a tennis player retires from a match whereas others do.
