This may be the first time I’ve had a bet on both the semifinal matches at a grand slam on the men’s side in quite some time. I’m not going to be arrogant and bet them large, as I do respect these matches as some of the most efficient betting markets there are in tennis, but I’m going to have a bet on the Norwegian nonetheless.
Whether it’s the fact that he’s going to be far more rested entering the match, playing better tennis at the moment, or having a huge advantage in any forehand exchanges, I’m happy to make a bet where winning 50% of the time is a profitable position in the long run. My Zverev vs Ruud prediction is for Ruud to win.

Alexander Zverev Recent Form
The win streak that the German is on has to be the primary reason he’s being given favorite status entering the match. The bigger serve could also be playing a role, but I’d wager that the market is liking the fact that he won the Rome Masters and has come to Paris and racked up five wins on the trot to extend that win streak to 11.
Before that? Not so great. I’m not sure the exits earlier in the clay season mean much though. It’s more about the fact that of the four semifinalists, he’s spent several hours more on the court than anyone.
Not only that but he’s looked more sluggish as the tournament has worn on. He played decently in his five-set win against Holger Rune, but before that, he narrowly escaped in five sets against Tallon Griekspoor and then his straight-sets win over Alex de Minaur was anything but straightforward.
He’ll need a big step up in his level on Friday if he’s to find another win, this time against a much tougher opponent.
Casper Ruud Recent Form
As strong as Zverev has been this clay season, Ruud has also put together another solid campaign on his favorite surface.
Outside of a few slip-ups in Madrid and Rome (though that loss to Felix Auger Aliassime in Madrid saw the Canadian play a level we haven’t seen in a long time), Ruud has been making deep runs consistently.
He began with a final at the Monte Carlo Masters, losing to a top clay courter in Stefanos Tsitsipas. He then won his first ever title above the 250 level in Barcelona (beating Tsitsipas in a rematch of the Monte Carlo final to lift the trophy) and then he managed to win another title in Geneva – where he’s claimed several trophies, despite the altitude making things better for many opponents.
Now he’s into yet another third semifinal in Paris and is looking to reach his third final. Should he get there, could the third time be the charm for Ruud at Roland Garros?
Alexander Zverev vs Casper Ruud H2H – Stat of the Match
This match serves as a sort of rubber match, with each of these two having beaten the other twice. Ruud has the edge of winning the only clay court match, which was also the most recent matchup. The setting? Last year at this very event in this very round.
Can he do it again? Or will Zverev exact his revenge?
