It’s the start of the Sunshine Double in the United States up on the ATP Tour, but time zones are complicating things a bit to start the week, so we’ll start our week with Beibit Zhukayev vs Max Hans Rehberg from the Thionville Open on the Challenger Tour.

Rehberg’s win probability is 50%, while Zhukayev is favoured to win at 1.80 odds. The handicap is 0.5 games and the total games line is 22.5.

Jon Reid’s Zhukayev vs Rehberg prediction is for Rehberg to win.

Beibit Zhukayev vs Max Hans Rehberg Prediction: More Rounded Player Should be Slight Favourite in France

  • Prediction: Rehberg to win
  • Best Odds: 2.00
  • Bookmaker: Betfair
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as at 3:30 am UK Time on March 3rd, 2025. Odds may now differ.

The qualifying draw for Indian Wells was released a tad late to get previews for Monday’s matches from Tennis Paradise written, so we’ll look to the Challenger circuit for the first previews of a new week (and month).

We start with a matchup of two strong servers in the Moselle region of France. Zhukayev and Rehberg each have the goods on serve to make this one a close matchup, but it’s the latter that is a bit more athletic and can be relied on a tad more on return relative to the big Kazakh.

I’m not making the case he should be the big favourite here – I don’t think either should be – but I’m not sure why the player that has tended to fade more often in longer matches and who has a less complete game is getting more respect in the markets.

It’s not like Zhukayev has shown the sizzling form that would force people to believe more in him either. I’ll take the 21-year-old who continues to (slowly) rise up the rankings.

Beibit Zhukayev Recent Form

Since making a pair of quarterfinals in Portugal at the Challenger level back in January when many of the players that would normally feature in those draws weren’t playing as they made their way back from Australia, Zhukayev has done very little.

He’s lost three of his last four matches since playing at the Davis Cup for Kazakhstan, including a defeat from a dominant lead against Mees Rottgering – a solid youngster, but one that is still underpowered and not yet ready for playing full time in Challengers.

There’s no doubt that Zhukayev has the big serve to trouble players indoors and the forehand to finish any balls left short that do come back, but after that, he finds himself at a disadvantage from the baseline more often than not.

Max Hans Rehberg Recent Form

It’s been a pretty good start for Rehberg to 2025, all things considered. The record doesn’t look great, but he’s been good enough to raise his ranking inside the world’s top-250 for the first time and his losses have come against some in-form competition like Daniel Rincon (from a set up) and Nicolai Budkov Kjaer (one of tennis’ best prospects).

The ball striking has always been there, as has the aggressive mindset. The lack of point construction, consistency and tactical play has always been what has held him back and while it’s gotten better in recent times, it’s still a work in progress.

Luckily, he’s playing a subpar returner this match (to be kind to Zhukayev), which should allow him to keep points nice and short and minimise how many shots he has to hit and thus how many errors he commits.

Throw in being the much better mover and I have him as the more likely player of the two to find a break of serve or two along the way.

Beibit Zhukayev vs Max Hans Rehberg H2H – Stat of the Match

This is the first time the two will meet. Should be a good one between two players that possess big serves and prefer quicker conditions.
