Zeynep Sonmez vs Maria Carle Prediction: We’re Going The Distance!

  • Prediction: Total Sets Over 2.5
  • Best Odds: +136
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on October 29, 2024.

Zeynep Sonmez is ranked 127th on the WTA Tour and is slightly favored to get past Argentina native Maria Carle listed as the 6-seed at this WTA250 event in Mexico.

Ranked 90th, Carle hasn’t won more than two matches at any event since the Madrid Open and if this match were being played on clay the Argentine would be the clear favorite. Carle’s game is better geared toward clay and as soon as we get to grass or hard courts it is a coin-flip as to what we’ll get from her.

The fact that this tourney is a hardcourt event is likely why the Turkish native is listed as the chalk to take down Carle in the first round of the Merida Open.

Sonmez is coming off a loss to 203rd-ranked Sayaka Ishii at the Pan Pacific Open after the impressive win over Magda Linette. Ironically, Ishii put so much effort into that win that she couldn’t even take the court against Diana Shnaider in the quarterfinal.

Carle enjoyed the beginning of the clay swing with an impressive 11 – 1 record but that is when the success started to turn around. Since the Rome Open in May, Carle has failed to win more than a single match in any event but once over the last 17 tourneys, her confidence on this surface won’t help her get far at the Merida Open.

Errors and mistakes will lead to a 3-set battle so enjoy the +136 action!

ZEYNEP SONMEZ RECENT FORM

Maria Carle won four events on hard courts during the 2020 and 2021 campaigns and hasn’t come close to winning one since. All six of her tournament wins since 2022 have come on clay including two this season at the ITF/Challenger level.

Carle is 13 – 11 on hard courts this season with a 37 – 25 record in 2024.
