- Best Odds: 1.69
- Bookmaker: Pinnacle

Odds as at 12:30 am UK Time on April 23rd, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Whether it’s because he simply couldn’t get into the field before the expanded draws or because he’s not fond of quicker conditions thanks to his game being far more suited to slower ones, we haven’t seen Bagnis at this event very much in his lengthy career.
Whichever explanation, it kind of provides some insight into his level and his preferences. Though he beat an aging David Goffin in three sets on Monday, I don’t know if he will be as successful against a talented youngster with plenty of firepower.
Zeppieri is himself comfortable on clay courts but has more weapons at his disposal to exploit the thinner air.
Happy to back him here as a fairly slight favorite.

Giulio Zeppieri Recent Form
After not having played since February, we’ve seen Zeppieri have a moderate amount of success since returning for play on the red dirt.
Losses to Zdenek Kolar and Benjamin Hassan aren’t great, but at least they were both in three sets and one was to a clay courter and the other to an in-form player.
Beating Maximilian Marterer isn’t the win it would’ve been a year ago, but at altitude, it’s certainly a decent victory, especially since he came so close a week ago to beating Felix Auger Aliassime and has shown signs of regaining a bit of form since Monte Carlo.
Zeppieri has a game with plenty of spins to succeed on the clay courts but also likes to play front-foot tennis. That’s the combination I’d look to back in the rare blend of conditions on offer in Madrid these next few weeks.
Facundo Bagnis Recent Form
After a Challenger title and then an ATP 250 final in his native Argentina to start his season, it seemed as though the 34-year-old may be in line for a renaissance late-career push. Alas, his ranking is still well outside the top 100 and since that success in Cordoba, Bagnis has struggled again against almost all the decent players he’s come up against.
He’s never had a lot to offer when it comes to playing more attacking tennis, but his solidity from the baseline and ability to construct points have always meant he’s at least competitive for the most part in his clay matches.
As he’s become older, I think some of that solid play from the baseline has dwindled as he gets to his spots a bit later and finds himself chasing the match even more than in the past.
His lack of play in Madrid also feels like a bit of a concern for me. As I said earlier, whether it’s because he couldn’t get into the draws or because he just doesn’t like the quicker conditions of play, it’s not exactly inspiring confidence.
Giulio Zeppieri vs Facundo Bagnis H2H – Stat of the Match
The lone match that these two played came four years ago when Zeppieri was a teenager. Needless to say, these two are on different trajectories career-wise, and I’m not sure I’d read much into a Challenger match from 2020.
