A pair of qualifiers square off at the top of the Section 1 bracket on Wednesday in Beijing when Zarina Diyas takes on Mananchaya Sawangkaew.

After two years away from the WTA Tour, Zarina Diyas is back and hungry again to compete at the WTA1000 level. A former top 30 player on the WTA tour, Diyas is back in the top 500 of the WTA rankings but we all know that will change with time.

Sawangkaew took out Hibino and Kektas in qualifying and the 187th-ranked Thailand native although she is 0 – 2 against Diyas.

EJ Garr’s Zarina Diyas vs Mananchaya Sawangkaew prediction leans on the Kazakhstan native to be successful in this first-round clash in China so check out his tip at -110 odds below.

Zarina Diyas vs Mananchaya Sawangkaew Prediction: A Coinflip Battle in Beijing

  • Prediction: Zarina Diyas Moneyline
  • Best Odds: -105
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on September 25, 2024.

The line setters show no favoritism toward Diyas or Sawangkaew to win this first-round affair as Pinnacle is showing -105 for either woman to advance to the second round.

While it might be unfortunate to have a battle with Aryna Sabalenka at the top of Section 1 of the main draw next, it’s up to us to flip that coin and call the winner of the match.

Heads is the call and my coin landed on Diyas to advance as we have another classic instance of why rankings are just numbers. Diyas hasn’t yet reached the top 500 of the WTA Rankings and yet the Kazahk is -105 to take out 187th-ranked Sawangkaew.

Let’s make no mistake that Diyas was away from the sport for two years and didn’t return until May for a WTA75 event in Fukuoka, Japan. After a 1 – 1 showing to start the return, Diyas and Sawangkaew were supposed to meet at Kurume, Japan the next week and Diyas couldn’t make a go of it.

Sawangkaew was credited with the walkover but she has yet to officially beat Diyas in two prior meetings that were finished which I’ll get into later.

Diyas was ranked inside the top 40 at her peak in 2014 but it’s been a battle for the Kazahk native to stay healthy enough to gain momentum and build a resume.

I have Diyas advancing to face Sabalenka where the tournament will end for the 30-year-old but the comeback will continue so stay tuned.

ZARINA DIYAS RECENT FORM

Zarina Diyas is 8 – 6 this season in her return to the WTA Tour and if she can stay healthy she can find wins on the WTA Tour.

Diyas has spent the last ten years ranked inside the top 100 for the most part and the goal has got to be getting back there again.

MANANCHAYA SAWANGKAEW RECENT FORM

Sawangkaew knows this is not an expected pushover affair because the line setters told her as much. I see a few major books posting -111 on the Thailand native to get past Diyas even though Pinnacle shows -105 for either to advance.

Sawangkaew is 35 – 19 on hardcourts and has a  40 – 21 record this season. You won’t see the Thai native competing on grass or clay so it’s hardcourts or bust!

DIYAS VS SAWANGKAEW H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Diyas is officially 2 – 0 against Sawangkaew with one of their matches was conceded in a walkover.

In 2019 at the Billie Jean King Cup, Diyas earned a straight-sets win over Sawangkaew and the two recently met at Wimbledon in June.

Diyas was pushed to a 7 – 5, 7 – 5 match in the grass Major against Sawangkaew resulting in the victory.
