We have arrived at the quarterfinals of the China Open and among the four matches at this stage of the event Yuliia Starodubtseva will take on Coco Gauff on Thursday morning in Beijing.

The American is a heavy favorite with odds above -600 to ease into the semifinal of this WTA1000 event and no one is shocked by that.

Starodubtseva upset 14th-ranked Kalinskaya in the fourth round and now she’ll face an opponent ranked inside the top 10 with Coco across the court.

EJ Garr’s Yulia Starodubtseva vs Coco Gauff prediction features a play on the match total so check out his tip below with odds at -110.

Raise your hand if you had Starodubtseva going 6 – 0 and making a quarterfinal appearance at the China Open! The Ukrainian native has caught fire in China and the 115th-ranked player on the WTA Tour faces one of the biggest challenges to date.

Coco Gauff’s ranking fell to 6th after the US Open loss to Emma Navarro but the American has been ranked inside the top 5 for most of this season.

Naomi Osaka pushed Coco in the fourth round and after a strange ending the American was given a free pass to the quarters of this WTA1000 event in Beijing. After Coco won the first set, Osaka oddly won the second set and then walked off the court unable to finish the match. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen someone win a set to force a third frame only to retire.

While Coco is listed at -625 and higher at some sites, Starodubtseva just manhandled 14th-ranked Kalinskaya in the fourth round and is playing her best tennis.

After a second-set sweep of 14th-ranked Kalinskaya to land in the quarters, as long as Yulia plays her game and isn’t fazed by a ranking, she should give Coco a good match.

I am turning to this total to go over the 19.5 games because I expect Yulia to show up and not be intimidated by the #6 next to Coco’s name. The +5.5 Handicap is worth some action with Starodubtseva so add that bet to your card!

YULIIA STARODUBTSEVA RECENT FORM

Yuliia Starodubtseva is 10 – 1 in the last 11 outings and is 6 – 0 at the China Open entering the quarterfinals.

The Ukrainian hasn’t dropped a set in Beijing sporting a perfect 12 – 0 record through 6 wins.

Yulia is 25 – 10 on hard courts and carries a 39 – 21 record in 2024 in only her second season on the WTA Tour.

COCO GAUFF RECENT FORM

Coco Gauff was extremely concerned for Osaka when Naomi had to raise the white flag and surrender. After losing the second set to Osaka who was not 100%, Gauff is now a heavy favorite to play in the semis.

Gauff is 25 – 8 on hard courts this year with a 44 – 15 record in 2024, and the American will produce a sixth consecutive campaign without a losing record on any surface.

Coco is 7 – 4 over the last 11 outings dating back to the loss at the Olympic Games.

The fact is that Gauff lost a first set and Osaka had a service game to finish a match off (no mp tho). Overall Gauf plays not so well. Badosa should have relatively easy vs her
