The Main Draw of the Korea Open is filled and a first-round battle between Yulia Putintseva and Amanda Anisimova will kick off the event on Monday in Seoul.

Putintseva carries the 6-seed in the lower bracket of the draw but the American will be listed as the chalk with odds at -125 to advance in this WTA500 event in South Korea.

Anisimova has battled her way back into the top 50 of the WTA Rankings with a reviewed confidence and love for the game of tennis that she had to rediscover.

Yulia Putintseva vs Amanda Anisimova Prediction: Featured Match of the Day in Seoul

  • Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
  • Best Odds: +140
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on September 16, 2024.

There will be one battle with two women ranked inside the top 50 in Seoul making the Putintseva vs Anisimova affair one of the featured matches to open the Main Draw of the Korea Open on Monday.

This game will be worth the price of admission. Three sets of tennis will decide the winner of this contest that does the distance and they will start building up the game count early.

The opening set total is 9.5 and the Over is listed at +100 and that is how you will start your week with an early winner. When they go to 4 – 4 in the opening frame we won’t be concerned with the winner of the first set and I honestly see a 7 – 5 coming. Someone will have their serve broken at a devastating point of the opening set and will have to rebound to find a way to push the match to a third set.

After we cash that first-set ticket, Putintseva will have to muster up the will to level the match after Anisimova takes the first-set win at -120. That will be cashed ticket #2 and when Yulia responds with a second-set win we can sit back and smile our way to the bank with the Over 2.5 Sets prop at +140.

The winner of this lower-bracket match is set up nicely for a run to the semifinal and with Jess Pegula out we will have a new champion in Seoul this year.

YULIA PUTINTSEVA RECENT FORM

Putintseva took a month off after Wimbledon to prepare for North America. She has competed in only two events going 2  – 1 in Cincinnati while repeating the effort at the US Open with a pair of wins before being sent packing from the last Major Tournament of the campaign.

With the 4 – 2 record on the North American swing, Yulia is 18 – 11 on hard courts this year and is all but guaranteed to have a winning record on all three surfaces.

The 26th-ranked Kazakhstan ran off an 8 – 1 record on grass (Birmingham trophy) and now has won titles on all three surfaces in her career.

AMANDA ANISIMOVA RECENT FORM

Anisimova was ranked in the 130s just over a month ago and after starting the campaign holding the 369th spot in the rankings the American is now in the top 50. Keeping that status might depend on a run in this event after dropping her last two outings.

There is no shame in losing to Pegula and Zheng, two players ranked in the top 10, so there is still reason to be confident with her game being favored today. The run to the Toronto final should still provide a lift to finish the year.

Amanda is 13 – 5 on hard courts this year and has a 17 – 11 record for the campaign.

PUTINTSEVA VS ANISIMOVA H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Putintseva and Anisimova have met twice and both clashes were during the 2022 campaign.

In April of that season, the first meeting was in Charleston on clay, and Anisimova blew Putintseva out of the water, 6  – 2, 6 – 1.

Putintseva rebounded with a win at the US Open in straight sets to level the series at a win apiece.
