Yue Yuan eased her way into the second round of the Guangzhou Open and will take on qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew with a quarterfinal appearance on the line.

Yuan helped out WTA expert cash a play on the Under 21.5 Games with the straight-sets sweep over Greet Minnen after a wild first-set tie-break.

Sawangkaew defeated Ella Seidel twice in three days to reach the second round of this WTA250 event in China, but the Thai native is a heavy underdog against Yuan at +240.

If the line setters offered an O/U on the aces in this match they wouldn’t be able to set it high enough to keep me from jumping all over it! Mananchaya will keep herself in this match because of her service game which came in handy in the two wins over Ella Seidel to reach the second round of the Guangzhou Open.

The 163rd-ranked Thailand native smashed out 7 aces against Seidel in the final qualifying match to reach the main draw. Seidel was awarded the Lucky Loser and Sawangkaew snapped off 13 more aces yesterday in the three-set win over Seidel. 

Yuan helped us cash the Under ticket yesterday against Greet Minnen but I admit we got lucky, especially after a 13-game first set that went into a tie-break. 

I am putting the first-set total on the board because I envision a 6 – 4 opening frame. Yuan lost only one service game against Minnen and Mananchaya will be tough to break. 

Pinnacle is showing -110 on the +4,5 games handicap, and the Thai native will have to keep up with Yuan who will be tough to break. The 21,5 offer on the total will likely need to win a three-set affair although I hope they go to a tie-break in the first set with my total posted. 

YUE YUAN RECENT FORM

Yue Yuan hasn’t won back-to-back outings over the last five events and the Chinese native hasn’t seen a quarterfinal of any event since March. Since reaching the quarterfinals at Indian Wells, Yuan hasn’t won more than two matches in 19 straight tournaments.

Yuan is 24 – 15 on hard courts this season and is clinging to a positive record at 29 – 25 in 2024. 

MANANCHAYA SAWANGKAEW RECENT FORM

Sawangkaew is 22 years old and has produced a pleasant 2024 campaign with 45 wins against 24 losses. The Thai native reached a career-high ranking of 163rd on Monday although she hasn’t developed any experience on clay or grass.

Sawangkaew is 40 – 22 on hard courts and has secured a third straight winning season.
