Yue Yuan carries the 3-seed in the Guangzhou Open and the Chinese native will be favored to get past Greet Minnen in the first round.
Yuan comes into this first-round affair chalked at -150 with expectations of a second-round appearance although neither she nor Minnen carries a lick of confidence into this match.

This is what I call an ugly match! Neither Yue Yuan nor Greet Minnen has lasted long enough in an event to notice they were there at all!
Yue Yuan hasn’t won more than two outings since March at Indian Wells. Yuan has participated in 19 events since and hasn’t gotten out of the second round once. The Chinese native is still clinging to a top-50 ranking despite being 9 – 18 over the last 27 outings.
Out of those 18 losses, 14 have been straight-set defeats which usually leads to a low game count and is partly why I am pointing to this total to stay under the 21.5 games.
As I look over Greet Minnens’ history, 10 of 14 matches have ended after the second set so I expect one of these ladies to fold like a lawn chair after losing the opening frame. There will be no comeback to force an extra frame and if I may be so bold, I will predict that Greet Minnen will win this match in straight sets.
At +275, the 2 – 0 correct score prop is a lovely offer toward the Belgian native to appear in the second round of the Guangzhou Open after a straight sets win. Yuan being favored doesn’t make me think she has a better chance of winning and there will be no home crowd on this court today.
There might be 30 people in the stands so let’s not act like the crowd support will impact this affair.
YUE YUAN RECENT FORM
Yue Yuan is 23 – 15 on hard courts this season and has a 28 – 25 record trying to secure a fourth straight winning campaign.
Over the last 13 events, Yuan hasn’t won back-to-back outings but once from the tourney in Monterrey, Mexico.
GREET MINNEN RECENT FORM
Greet Minnen is on the edge of the top 100 currently ranked 95th on the WTA Tour.
Minnen is 18 – 20 on hard courts this season, with a 26 – 31 record trying to avoid a second losing campaign in three years.
Minnen produced a 19 – 21 record in 2022 and put up her best numbers in her career with a 56 – 19 2023 season so the drop-off is strange for the 27-year-old Belgian in her prime.
YUAN VS MINNEN H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
Yue Yuan won the only match with Greet Minnen in 2021 at Angers in France. Yuan won the match in straight sets and advanced to the semifinals.
