Yue Yuan vs Ajla Tomljanovic Prediction: Aussie Favored in China
- Prediction: Ajla Tmoljanovic -1.5 Games Handicap
- Best Odds: -108
- Bookmaker: Pinnacle
- Stakes: 3/10
Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on October 15, 2024.
Yue Yuan calls China home but isn’t enjoying the Asian swing of the WTA Tour, Yuan went 1 – 2 in Thailand and Doha earlier in the campaign and is 2 – 3 as the Asian swing continues in Ningbo.
Still clinging to a ranking inside the top 50, Yuan reached as high as 36th after Indian Wells and currently occupies the 46th spot of the WTA Rankings.
Ironically, since the trip to the quarterfinals at Indian Wells, the wheels have fallen off the Yuan Wagon. Yuan has competed in 18 events since Indian Wells and hasn’t won more than two outings during the stretch.
Tomljanovic cruised to a win against Chinese/Canadian Carol Zhao and then made Ella Seidel look just as bad during qualifying. Aja lost no less than 2 games in either of the four sets and is playing with confidence entering the main draw of the Ningbo Open.
Tomljanovic is 8 – 3 on this portion of the Asian swing and pocketed the title in Hong Kong as part of the run. If either player has the confidence to rely on it is in Tomljanovic right now and instead of paying the juice, I am going with the handicap.
The -135 offer is outside of my comfort zone and since Ajla will get past Yuan I am laying the -1.5 games to get a better price at -108. I am not a fan of drinking the juice and don’t need to settle for -135.
YUE YUAN RECENT FORM
Yue Yuan has struggled in Asia this season and another quick exit from this event could see her ranking drop outside the top 50.
Yuan is 22 – 14 on hard courts this season and with a 27 – 24 record the Chinese native is on the verge of a fourth straight winning campaign.
With a title from the Austin event, Yuan has won at least one tournament in the last four seasons but hasn’t developed much of a game on clay or grass.
AJlA TOMLJANOVIC RECENT FORM
Tomljanovic secured a tournament win in Hong Kong but her season has been limited to only 37 matches in 2024. With an 11 – 11 record on hard courts, Aja is 19 – 18 this year trying to secure her fourth straight season with a winning record.
If Tomljanovic can stay healthy she has a chance to be a top-50 player on the WTA Tour. The former #33 was in that position during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns but a 7 – 3 2023 season left the Aussie ranked 290th entering this season.
Ajla is currently consuming the 85th spot in the WTA Rankings.
YUAN VS TOMLJANOVIC H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
Yuan and Tomljanovic will meet for the first time on the WTA Tour in the first round of the Ningbo Open.
