- Prediction: Yafan Wang Moneyline
- Best Odds: +120

Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on September 25, 2024.
Yafan Wang was out of commission from September 1st to November 12th last season and that held the China native out of most of the Asian swing. Wang only appeared in two ITF events in Japan to finish the 2023 campaign so we’ll assume she’s happy to be healthy and playing at home.
Wang calls Beijing home so she is quite literally in her backyard today as an underdog to 68th-ranked Ashlyn Krueger. Wang enters the week taking up the 58th spot in the WTA Rankings and it’s a shame she couldn’t finish a 2023 campaign that included 6 tournament wins.
Two of those title runs were in China and two more were earned in Japan for Wang last year and that’s why I am thinking underdog in this spot. Feeling at home and feeling pressure at home are two different things and Wang will be able to separate the two into a win in the first round of the China Open.
After another nice run at the US Open, Wang has taken the last three weeks off to prepare for this event, and that is good news for us doggie lovers. At +120 to find the outright win I see all of the value on the hometown court to come in handy.
Krueger has a win over Wang at Nottingham this year so the revenge factor is also in play today. Revenge is best served cold and we’re going to take advantage of it with Wang on the Moneyline.
YAFAN WANG RECENT FORM
Yafan Wang has won 12 tournament titles in her career and all but one have been at the ITF-level. A tourney win at Aculpulco accounts for the one WTA win but five of those titles have been won in China with another pair in Japan.
Wang is 20 – 13 on hardcourts this season and is in danger of producing a losing record at 23 – 21 for the campaign. Wang had a winning record on all three surfaces in 2023 along with a 39 – 19 record on hard courts.
ASHLYN KRUEGER RECENT FORM
Ashlyn Krueger has a tourney win in Osaka from last year among the three trophies on the shelf. Krueger is in line to produce another season without a losing record on any surface in year 3 on tour.
Ashlyn recently took down Naomi Osaka and Donna Vekic in Cincinnati which are quality wins for the 20-year-old American.
Krueger is 17 – 14 on hard courts this year with a 27 – 23 record for the campaign and was recently creeping into the top 50 of the WTA rankings.
WANG VS KRUEGER H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
Ashlyn Krueger defeated Yafan Wang at Nottingham in June in straight sets at 3 and 3 in the round of 16.
The winner of this clash will advance to face 29-seeded Lulu Sun in the second round of the China Open in Beijing.
