Xiyu Wang went the distance in 2023 and hoisted the Guangzhou hardware earning the 23-year-old Chinese native her first WTA event trophy. Wang wasn’t even seeded in this WTA250 event but four of the top-8 seeds have already bowed out of the Guangzhou Open this week.

Bronzetti can win this match outright and advance to the semifinal but the line setters are trying to convince everyone otherwise.

The line opened at -185 so to see it flying up to -217 and -220 tells me the early players have the defending champ making the semifinal. Wang was 2 – 4 on the Asian swing before the Guangzhou Open began and on Monday the Chinese native landed just inside the top 100 of the WTA Rankings (99).

With a 17 – 21  record on hard courts, Bronzetti has won a clay tournament in each of the last four campaigns.
