Xinyu Wang vs Sofia Kenin Prediction, Picks, Odds, H2H, Stats - 10/21/24
The first round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open begins on Monday in Tokyo and a clash between Xinyu Wang and Sofia Kenin is set after each of their expected opponents bailed out of the event.
Winyu Wang was originally slated to face Bianca Andreescu but the Canadian native was forced to withdraw and has returned home.
Sofia Kenin and Diana Shnaider were drawn together but Shnaider will not be in Japan for this WTA500 event.
The American is 3 – 0 against her Chinese opponent on the WTA tour but EJ Garr’s Xinyu Wang vs Sofia Kenin prediction calls for that to turn around so check out his tip at +144 below.

Xinyu Wang vs Sofia Kenin Prediction: American Struggling With Her Confidence
- Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
- Best Odds: +144
- Bookmaker: Unibet
- Stakes: 3/10
Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on October 21, 2024.
With Shnaider absent from Tokyo, Kenin can, at least, have solace that she has defeated Xinyu Wang all three times they have played.
Wang is a heavy favorite with odds flying past -275 to advance to the second round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open and the Chinese native comes into Japan playing well. Xinyu went 4 – 0 in Wuhan before being bounced in the semifinals against Qinwen Zheng. Still, a win against Jess Pegula is a confidence-building victory and I expect it will lead to good things against Sofia Kenin today.
The American has struggled in Asia only picking up one win and is enduring a 3-match losing skid entering Tokyo. Kenin’s ranking has slipped to 158th on the WTA Tour and has only 10 wins posted during the 2024 campaign.
The public must have pounded Wang on the early line because when these odds were first announced Wang was -185 and now we are seeing close to -300 on the Chinese native to ease past Kenin.
Let that line move all it wants because I see this as a 3-set affair. The confidence that Kenin has from taking three wins against Wang is going to help the American’s mindset.
Bwin is showing +300 on the 2 – 1 correct score for a Wang victory when the final shot is made so enjoy that bonus offer!
XINYU WANG RECENT FORM
Wang is well aware that she has struggled with Sofia Kenin so I have no doubt when she hears she’s a heavy favorite she will ask why? That kind of confidence, or lack thereof, can get in a player’s head so Wang has to get past that and then find her game.
Wang picked up a big win over Jess Pegula in Wuhan and the win over Ekaterina Alexandrova bolstered the Chinese native into the semifinals. Despite the straight-sets loss to Qinwen Zheng, the run in Wuhan should still provide some confidence heading to Tokyo.
Wang is 18 – 16 on hard courts this season and a 31 – 24 record has her in a position to secure a fifth straight campaign with a winning record.
SOFIA KENIN RECENT FORM
Ugly! It says recent form, right? Well, the American’s recent form is ugly and there is no sugar-coating to offer here!
Sonya is 4 – 15 on hard courts this year and a 10 – 24 record will leave the American with a losing record for the second time in three seasons. Kenin has produced a losing record on all three surfaces in 2024.
WANG VS KENIN H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
Xinyu Wang is 0 – 3 in three tries against Sofia Kenin and hasn’t even won a set against the American.
The two met twice last season in Auckland and Wimbledon and Kenin won both affairs in straight sets.
Their first meeting was also at Wimbledon in 2021 and Kenin sent Wang packing from the Major in straight sets.
