Hard to pass up on Moreno de Alboran here at odds over even. I’m not denying that this is likely to be a very close match, but I do think if you’re going to give one of these guys a slight edge, I’d have Moreno de Alboran as the small favorite.
The form hasn’t been the best in recent times, but Kopriva hasn’t exactly been on a tear either, and with both of these guys more than capable on serve and on the forehand side, I’d prefer the slightly less volatile game of the American.
Now, it’s not the best without some risk (none are), as his backhand is a disappointing groundstroke, but I’m happy to back him at any number that implies a win percentage below 50%.
Vit Kopriva Recent Form
I mentioned that neither of these guys was in particularly impressive form. In the case of Kopriva, he’s trying to snap a three-match losing skid, with a pair of those coming on hard courts and the third in Tulln last week from 6-1 up against Jan Choinski.
It’s the primary reason I can’t have him favored in this match. He’s a bit too hit-or-miss for me and without a clear form advantage being mired in a slump himself, I don’t see any real advantages here for him other than the weakness of the Moreno de Alboran backhand.
From a more general perspective, I often also like opposing these kinds of talented players who are error-prone when they’re favorites while backing them when underdogs. I’d rather side with better odds on players where the range of outcomes is so wide. With Kopriva a pretty clear favorite, I’m going to go ahead and back his opponent.
Nicolas Moreno de Alboran Recent Form
Moreno de Alboran’s losing streak now stands at four, though only his loss to Sandro Kopp is a poor one.
A third-set tiebreak against a decent rising player in Elmer Moeller, a three-set loss to a David Goffin who was on a tear in August, and a hard-court loss to Leandro Riedi are nothing to be ashamed about.
Back on clay, the forehand becomes that much more effective for him as well, with the pace playing well and the topspin adding shape and dimension to that shot.
He’ll need it against the aggressive style of Kopriva and that topspin can make things tough for those who tend to overhit. If he can coax errors from a Kopriva that already provides plenty on his own, he should emerge from this contest victorious.

The only meeting between these actually happened this year on a clay court in qualifying for Rome.
Moreno de Alboran came away with the three-set victory in that one. Let’s see if he can do so again on Tuesday.
