Viktoriya Tomova vs Arantxa Rus Prediction, Picks, Odds, H2H, Stats - 8/21/24
Viktoriya Tomova and Arantxa Rus haven’t faced each other in six years but they get together on Wednesday in the second round at the Tennis in the Land event in Cleveland.
Tomova is the slight favorite with odds at -140 and the Bulgarian native carries the 7-seed in Ohio this week in search of a quarterfinals appearance.
Arantxa Rus struggled slightly with Lucia Bronzetti on Monday after a run to the finals in Hamburg and EJ Garr’s Viktoriya Tomova vs Arantxa Rus prediction leans on the Dutch native to advance to the quarters at +120.

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on August 21, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Viktoriya Tomova made quick work of Lauren Davis in the first round of the Tennis in the Land event, and the line setters have slapped the chalk on the Bulgarian at -140.
After one win at the Olympics and the loss to Emma Navarro in Paris, Tomova fell short in Toronto and Cincinnati exiting both events without a victory. Getting past Lauren Davis easily in the first round, Tomova entered Cleveland as the 50th-ranked player on the WTA Tour 45 spots ahead of Rus.
If I am being honest I expected this line to be closer to even than to see Tomova favored at -140 and that is what pointed me to Rus to win this match. First of all, the +120 offer is better than I thought we’d be getting, and despite the loss to Anna Bondar in the Hamburg finals, I’ll take Rus to move on to the quarters in Cleveland.
The total for this match comes in at 21.5 and the game to go three-sets prop only features odds at +135. That is fair value and you know it crossed my mind but even if they both win a set it won’t stop Rus from winning two of those sets.
The other thing that is bugging me about Tomova is that loss to Uchijima as a -150 favorite in Toronto. The win over Lauren Davis means nothing to me because the American frankly is too small and has no game.
I’ll take the underdog Rus at +120!
VIKTORIYA TOMOVA RECENT FORM
Tomova played terribly in Toronto and Cincinnati getting knocked out of each event in her first match and I can’t express enough what a win over Lauren Davis means besides squat!
Tomova and Rus are a lot alike because they do well on clay and then the other two surfaces are a total crap shoot! Tomova is 10 – 12 on hardcourts this season and 29 – 27 overall trying to keep her head above .500.
ARANTXA RUS RECENT FORM
Arantxa Rus made me look good in Hamburg as I called two of her wins en route to the finals of that event. The loss to Anna Bondar in the final was a surprise as Rus was the defending champion of that event from last season.
Rus is also trying to stay afloat with a 26 – 25 record this season including an 8 – 9 record on hard courts.
I’ll guarantee you these two would rather play this match on clay!
TOMOVA VS RUS H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
Arantxa Rus holds a 2 – 1 edge in the series with Tomova and all three meetings happened on clay long ago.
The first meeting between them was in 2016 and that accounts for Tomova’s lone victory over Rus in Hungary.
At the French Open in 2017, Rus leveled the series with a 3-set win, and the 2018 clash at Saint Gaudens in France went to Rus in straight sets.
