Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Laslo Djere Prediction, Stats, Form, H2H, April 8th
It’s a quiet week on the main tour front. The WTA is off with tennis’ version of an international break happening this coming weekend with the BJK Cup.
The men are in action, but with the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters taking center stage, no other smaller events are going on. To start our week of ATP previews off, let’s look at our Tsitsipas vs Djere prediction.
Djere’s win probability is only 25.5% while Tsitsipas is favored to win at 1.29 odds. The handicap is 4 games and the total games line is 22.

Odds as at 12:30 am UK Time on April 8th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Neither of these two has been playing much inspiring tennis in 2024. Djere, however, has been a much larger disappointment. He hasn’t looked good at all to this point in the season and even when he’s had strong starts to matches, he’s nearly always stumbled over the finish line.
Tsitsipas is at a venue that suits his game well and where he’s won twice before and Djere is totally out of form. With this in mind, I’m willing to give up the four-game head start.
There are a few other things to consider as well. First, Tsitsipas almost exclusively chooses to serve first when he wins the coin toss. That means there’s a decent chance he’s serving first and that 6-3 first set is in play. Helps make a straight-set win land on a five-game margin of victory, rather than four. The second is that having watched a lot of Djere this year, I’ve seen him fade consistently as matches wear on.
A fade down the stretch could be the key to covering this handicap. I also think it points to there being something bothering him physically that he may be playing through. Regardless, I make the handicap closer to an Asian handicap of 4.75. Our Tsitsipas vs Djere prediction is for Tsitsipas to cover the 4-game handicap.
Stefanos Tsitsipas Recent Form
After years at the top of the game, it feels as though Tsitsipas has slipped a bit. He is still lagging behind Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev on hard courts. He has also been surpassed by phenoms Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, so it would be easy to overlook the Greek No. 1.
He’s fallen outside of the top 10 for the first time in what feels like years.
That said, he’s leaving behind the hard courts and getting back to his bread and butter. In fact, when he played on slower hard courts in late February, he lost to two top-10 players. This was late in tournaments and both of those losses were close.
With slower conditions allowing for more time on his backhand wing, and his firepower, Tsitsipas is right at home in Monte Carlo. He’s a two-time champion of this event (2021 and 2022) for a reason.
This feels like the perfect first match for him. A natural clay courter who has pushed him before to test him. But also one that isn’t in great form and isn’t very likely to end his tournament before it begins.
Laslo Djere Recent Form
The world No. 34 is going to need to start to accumulate points, and soon. He has nothing to defend this week. He lost to Hubert Hurkacz in three tiebreaks here last season, but he does have a high-level Challenger final, ATP 250 quarterfinal, and Masters fourth round to defend in the next five weeks.
Djere is a clay courter by trade, but even a trip to play the Golden Swing went horribly for him. He beat the out-of-form Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Marin Cilic, who hasn’t been able to play much in the last few years. He then lost to both Andrea Vavassori and Dusan Lajovic as a favorite. This indicates that the market may still trust him more than it should.
Last week in his spring clay debut, he once again lost as a favorite, this time to the aging Fabio Fognini.
Perhaps this week he will find some inspiration and play his best tennis again. With the struggles he’s had all season long, I’m willing to bet that doesn’t happen against someone as strong as Tsitsipas.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Laslo Djere H2H – Stat of the Match
Tsitsipas has never lost to the Serbian, leading the all-time series 4-0. That includes a win from when he was a teenager eight years ago at a Challenger.
Oddly enough, the only player to keep the margin of victory for Tsitsipas to three games or fewer during his two title runs. Djere. That was a different time though and Djere wasn’t in the midst of looking really poor on the court in terms of quality, fitness, and body language.
