What? No chance, no way, and no one should buy what the line setters are selling because Elle Seidel isn’t winning anything today.

I am being blunt because Seidel didn’t even earn her way into this main draw, not to mention the 40+ spots in the WTA rankings separating them. 

124th-ranked Ella Seidel and 81st-ranked Tatjana Maria have the line setters convinced that a rebound is coming for Seidel after falling flat against Dayana Yastremska in qualifying. Ironically, Yastremska was partly responsible for knocking Seidel out of the doubles competition yesterday. 

Seidel has won a tournament in Stuttgart in the last two seasons, but not at the WTA level. Being in a WTA500 event changes the entire complexion of opponents she faced at a WTA35 event last year in Stuttgart.

Last I checked, the player representing Germany at the BJK was Tatjana Maria, but she’s not even favored against Seidel? Let’s stop with the foolishness and put Tatjana Maria at +125 to win this match and advance to the second round, where Coco Gauff is waiting.

Getting past Coco is extremely unlikely, although Coco is coming off a tough, unlikely loss against Magda Linette in Miami. We’ll cross that bridge later, but our money is on Maria to provide an upset in Stuttgart at +125.

TATJANA MARIA RECENT FORM

Tatjana Maria went 2 – 1 on the clay of Bogata before going 0 – 2 this past week at the Billie Jean King Cup.

Maria was 4 – 1 in her last five outings before the loss in Bogata, and the German native claimed a title at the WTA100 Bengaluru event as part of a 6-game win streak in late January.

The 37-year-old veteran was 4 – 10 last season on clay, but was the back-to-back title holder in Bogata in 2023 and 2024 to claim her only two trophies on the dirt.

ELLA SEIDEL RECENT FORM

Ella Seidel is 14 – 8 in 2025 with a 2 – 4 record to begin the clay swing. Seidel went 49 – 35 over the last two seasons on the clay, and won a WTA35 and WTA75 ITF event on the dirt in 2024.

The 20-year-old Hamburg native has only one win over the last five outings against Yanina Wickmayer, but went 14 – 8 on hardcourts before getting on the dirt this season.
