Wasn’t it nice cashing that +150 ticket for the Maria vs. Bondar match yesterday?
I told you the breaks of serve would be in abundance and Maria broke the Hungarian six times while being broken four times on her serve.
Expecting a Tatjana Maria match to go three sets is something I will not stop doing until the German proves she can prevent it from happening. Five of Maria’s last six outings have needed three sets to decide the victor, and I will not be shy about offering the Over 2.5 Sets prop again.
Blinkova was pushed to three sets against Moyuka Uchijima and was slightly favored at -110 to defeat the 6-seeded Japanese native. Anna has had an extra day off to prepare for Maria, which will come in handy because we can assume she watched the match knowing she would be playing one of them today.
The extra day of rest won’t hurt, but let’s not forget how these two arrived in Austin. Blinkova got shut down by Ella Seidel in Cluj as a -175 favorite to open the event in Romania. Seidel swept Blinkova off the court and Maria’s last outing before arriving in Texas was another disaster.
I spoke about it yesterday mentioning the loss to Iryna Shymanovich in Cancun, and that Maria needed to rebound from the harsh defeat. They both needed three sets in the first round to get here, and someone will need three sets to reach the quarterfinals of the ATX Open.
Regardless of who wins this match, we’re going the distance so buckle up for the ride and post your +145 action on the Over 2.5 sets!
TATJANA MARIA RECENT FORM
Tatjana Maria started the season with a loss at Adelaide and went 1 – 1 at the Australian Open.
Maria followed that up with a run to the Bangaluru WTA100 title and then stretched her season-best win streak to six games with a first-round win in Singapore.
After losing to Elise Mertens in Singapore, Maria was humbled by the loss to Shymanovich in the first round but responded with a three-set win over Bondar yesterday.
The German native is 8 – 4 this year following a disappointing 35 – 36 2024 campaign, which snapped a two-year run with a winning record on the WTA Tour.
ANNA BLINKOVA RECENT FORM
Anna Blinkova is ranked 74th on the WTA Tour and is 7 – 5 to start the 2025 campaign.
Blinkova reached the Linz quarterfinal as the only highlight of the season. That is the only tournament in which Blinkova has won more than one match, but she has won every first-round outing this year.
Blinkova was 25 – 20 in 2024 ending a 2-year run with a winning record.
MARIA VS BLINKOVA HTH – STAT OF THE MATCH
Maria and Blinkova have faced each other on three occasions, but haven’t met since 2019.
Maria won their first meeting in Linz during the 2018 campaign, and Blinkova leveled the series with a win in Luxembourg only 6 days later.
Blinkova won their only meeting in 2019 at Luxembourg.
The winner of this match will likely face Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals of the ATX Open unless Nuna Parrizas Diaz stuns the American.
