This is a battle between two ladies ranked outside of the top 200 on the WTA Tour, but the 19-year-old from Thailand has pocketed two titles this season.

Tararudee is the slight underdog in Paris for this qualifying match, and the total is set at  21.5 games.

The first meeting was played on a hard court at a W25 Hong Kong event last June, and the young  Thailander earned a straight-sets win, 4 & 4. The two met again on clay last August in Nanchang, China, and Tararidee made it look even easier with another straight-set victory at 2 & 3. 

Oh, Tararudee went on to win that trophy in China on clay, by the way. It may have been a W40 tourney but titles are titles when you are only 18 years old and just starting your pro career.

That is one big reason I am going with the Thailand youngster to advance past You in Paris today. The fact that she is listed as the underdog at +110 is another reason I expect her to move on to face the winner of the Katarina Zavatska vs Yuliia Starodubtseva match in this section.

I considered that Lanlana would be nervous playing in a WTA Major Tournament at 19, but this is someone who just reeled off a 9-match win streak and she is playing someone ranked 213th in the World. 

Tararudee cracked the top-200 list due to her 24 – 10 record on hard courts but this is her first event of the season playing on clay. She hasn’t seen the dirt since last November, but her game has elevated enough to give me confidence in Lanlana to take this qualifying match.

Lanlana is 10 – 2 over her last 12 matches entering qualifying at the French Open. This is her first match on clay this season, although she has a title on dirt from her run at Nanchang mentioned above.
