Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on December 12, 2024. Odds may now differ.
I took this match today to bash Ekaterina Alexandrova for that lackluster effort after a two-month layoff from tennis. What did Alexandrova come back to accomplish? A straight-sets loss in the opening round isn’t a good look for the 28th-ranked player on the WTA Tour who is trying to prepare for 2025.
Korpatsch took full advantage of Alexandrova and the 172nd-ranked German native dismissed her first-round opponent with the two-set sweep!
Tamara broke Alexandrova five times with two of those breaks winning the first and second sets.
With a 5 – 3 lead in the opening frame, Alexandrova broke Korpatsch to reach 5 – 4 and then flopped on serve to lose the set, 6 – 4.
At 6 – 5 in the second set, Korpatsch broke Alexandrova to take the game/set/match, 7 – 5 and that was all she wrote.
Landing Lucky Loser Manon Leonard couldn’t be set up better for Korpatsch who should have no issue today with a quarterfinal spot on the line.
Leonard had lost six consecutive outings before the first-round win against Janicijevic and the 23-year-old France native has descended to 228th in the WTA Rankings.
I will point to this total after that effort against Alexandrova and having no faith in Leonard to keep this match close. With a 6 – 3, 6 – 2 match in mind, the Under 19.5 total holds a semblance of value at +104.
The 2 – 0 sweep is listed at even money so it’s a pick-your-poison play for this second-round affair at Le Open de Limoges.
TAMARA KORPATSCH RECENT FORM
Tamara Korpatsch was prepared for Alexandrova and the two-month layoff showed a bit on Tuesday. Korpatsch took advantage of Alexandrova’s serve and didn’t lose a set as a big underdog but now she’s the favorite.
It is a different mindset when you are the hunter or the hunted. Being favored brings pressure and being an underdog alleviates some of that pressure.
Korpatsch will have to handle the extremes and simply play sound tennis on Thursday against a France native hungry for a big win. Despite being ranked 172nd, Korpasch would be a big notch in the belt for Leonard, so Tamara needs to be careful today.
Korpatsch hasn’t won back-to-back outings since early August spanning 13 tournament entries.
The 29-year-old German native might be on the backend of her career facing a second straight losing campaign in 2024. With a 14 – 35 record this season, Korpatsch is following up a 27 – 30 2023 and is 37 – 63 on hard courts over the last five campaigns.
MANON LEONARD RECENT FORM
Manon Leonard is 42 – 31 in 2024 playing in mostly ITF/Challenger events.
The French native is 40 – 25 on hard courts this year despite the 0 – 6 run entering Le Open de Limoges.
The Lucky Loser gained re-entry to the tournament despite a three-set loss to Patricia Tig in the final qualifying round.
KORPATSCH VS LEONARD HTH – STAT OF THE MATCH
This will be the first time Tamara Jorpastch and Manon Leonard have met on the WTA Tour.
The winner of this match will face either Elsa Jacquemot or Anastasia Zakharova in the quarterfinal of Le Open de Limoges.
