Sorana Cirstea and Laura Siegemund square off in the first round of the ATX Open on Monday morning, and the Romanian native arrives as the favorite to advance in this WTA250 at Austin, TX.

The weather in Texas will look more like Spring this week as 70-degree+ temperatures arrive on Monday and more warmth is headed for the area this week in Austin.

Cirstea has odds of -190 to reach the second round, but the German native won’t be intimidated as the underdog today!

EJ Garr’s prediction for Sorana Cirstea vs. Laura Siegemund can be found below with +139 odds.

Sorana Cirstea vs Laura Siegemund WTA ATX Open Prediction: We’re Going The Distance

  • Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
  • Best Odds: +139
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on February 24, 2025. Odds may now differ.

Sorana Cirstea and Laura Siegemund are going the distance, and that concludes our preview for this first-round affair in Austin.

Okay, I will give you more but point to a three-set thriller between Sorana Cirstea and Laura Siegemund to kick off this WTA250 event in the Great State of Texas.

The weather will shift to warmer temperatures this week, and the tournament in Austin will have 70-degree days after the cold front that consumed the entire nation. It was only 62 during the conclusion of qualifying on Sunday so the timing for main draw action couldn’t get much better.

Cirstea and Siegemund have only met once since 2019 and I highly doubt either of them remembers their first encounter in 2016. The heads-up stuff doesn’t give us much to go with, but my gut tells me we are going the distance, and I try not to argue with myself, HA!

BetMGM is posting -425 odds for Cirstea to win any set in this match, but Siegemund isn’t far behind at -200 to do the same. If you plan on paying -200 to get $50 for your $100, stop betting on sports!

Cirstea is following up a nice run in Dubai that included three wins against Kasatkina, Parks, and Emma Navarro before falling to Karolina Muchova in the quarterfinals.

Siegemund defeated Qinwen Zheng in the first Major of the season, although her last effort against Cristina Bucsa in Doha was less than inspiring!

They will both win a set and we get the value behind a +139 on the Over 2.5 sets when they get there.

SORANA CIRSTEA RECENT FORM

Sorana Cirstea is ranked 89th on the WTA tour, eight spots behind her 81st-ranked opponent today.

Cirstea is 4 – 5 this season and is following up a 12 – 16 2024 campaign. The former World’s #26 was 0 – 3 on the grass last season, and the 34-year-old Romanian veteran hasn’t been ranked outside the top 100 since 2015.

LAURA SIEGEMUND RECENT FORM

Laura Siegemund is 5 – 5 in 2025 and the 36-year-old German native is following up a 28 – 22 2024 campaign.

Siegemund has a 1 – 2 record since defeating Qinwen Zheng at the Australian Open with losses against Pavlyuchenkova and Bucsa.

CIRSTEA VS SIEGEMUND HTH –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Cirstea and Siegemund have met thrice since 2016, and the Romanian holds a 2 – 1 edge in the series.

Their first encounter was on the clay in Madrid, and Cirstea swept the Germans out of the event.

In 2019 at the Miami Open, Siegemund responded with a three-set win to level the series, but Cirstea won their most recent clash in 2022 at the US Open.
