Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on October 21, 2024.
Zhang won four matches in 2023 and has the same number of wins this season but the problem is the 30 losses. Currently 238th on the WTA Tour, Zhang has lost three straight outings after picking up four wins in Beijing which was an amazing accomplishment.
Taking out Emma Navarro and Magda Frech among the four wins in Beijing seemed to bring Zhang back to life but we are seeing another downslide from the China native.
After the loss to Badosa in Beijing, Zhang ran into a hot Yulia Putintseva at Wuhan and recently lost to Olivia Gadecki at the Ningbo Open to account for the three-game skid.
Rakhimova isn’t playing full of confidence at the moment either. Kamillia enjoyed her stay in Mexico taking one of the two Guadalajara events en route to a seven-game win streak but the momentum is gone.
Rakhimova is 6 – 6 since the trip to Mexico and she needs to make a decent run in this event to keep that 64th ranking. A first-round loss to 238th-ranked Zhang will not help matters, especially after that effort against Wang the last time in the court. Rakhimova got manhandled by 98th-ranked Xiyu Wang at the Ningbo Open but I expect her to rebound!
SHUAI ZHANG RECENT FORM
Shuai Zhang is hoping another losing streak isn’t about to start. After dropping 24 decisions the Chinese native caught fire in Beijing but is struggling again to pick up wins.
Zhang is 4 – 9 on hard courts this season and didn’t win either appearance on grass or clay.
With a 4 – 11 record, Zhang produced a 4 – 19 tally in 2023 and went 0 – 4 on grass and clay during that campaign.
KAMILLA RAKHIMOVA RECENT FORM
Kamilla Rakhimova carries the 8-seed in the upper bracket and could use a boost of confidence.
Rakhimova hasn’t gotten out of the second round during three events of the Asian swing and has been the Lucky Loser in two of the three events. All that meant was that she could lose twice and she eventually did!
Rakhimova is 36 – 32 and in a position to secure a fifth straight winning season. Kamilla is 24 – 21 on hard courts and has never produced a losing record on this surface since turning pro in 2020.
ZHANG VS RAKHIMOVA HTH – STAT OF THE MATCH
Shuai Zhang and Kamilla Rakhimova are meeting for the first time on the WTA Tour at the Guangzhou Open.
