Daria Saville vs Clara Tauson Prediction, Expert Picks, Odds, H2H, News for 5/9/24
Daria Saville and Clara Tauson will square off on Thursday at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia for a first-round battle in Section 8 of the bottom bracket.
Tauson has already had to pass two tests in qualifying to land in the first round of the WTA Rome event. Saville has been waiting for her opponent as a protected ranked entrant, as she plays her first match of this WTA-1000 affair in Italia.
Our Saville vs Tauson prediction is listed below with odds at +137.
Tauson still has the favoritism of the line setters to win this match at -185, and Ej Garr isn’t the least bit surprised by that. Let’s see what our WTA capper has to say about this first-round affair between Saville and Tauson.
SAVILLE VS TAUSON PREDICTION: A LOPSIDED AFFAIR IN ROME

- Best Odds: +137 (2.37)
- Bookmaker: William Hill
- Stakes: 3/10
Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time May 9, 2024. Odds may now differ.
I will never intentionally disrespect any player on tour, but what I am about to say might seem a bit harsh. Tauson is going to kick Saville’s ass in this first-round affair, and that will give her a third win in Rome after two wins in qualifying.
I was going to suggest some kind of Same-Game Parlay for this match but in all honesty, I just like Tauson to take out Saville in straight sets and the price is fine enough for me. At +137 on William Hill, the correct score, 2 – 0 sets bet, tickles my fancy. It will keep my trend of posting plus-money bets since I started posting my WTA articles here at BE.
Tauson on clay has produced some nice wins, and let’s not forget her run on this surface in 2020. Clara reeled off a 12 – 2 record that season and earned her only clay title, albeit a W15 ITF event. Tauson was 11 – 5 in 2023 on clay, and in seven matches this year she has five wins including the two here in Rome.
Saville has yet to win any type of trophy since her win in 2017 at New Haven, and her clay record doesn’t scream success. A loss to 183rd-ranked Celine Naef in France sure didn’t boost any confidence coming into a WTA-1000 event as an underdog in her first match.
Tauson wins this match, 6 – 2, 6 – 4, as that second set might get interesting but it won’t stop us from cashing the 2 – 0 sets bet on Clara. I hope you catch my second article posted this morning, because more value is on the table for you!

CLARA TAUSON RECENT FORM
Since the 2020 campaign, Tauson has a record of 32 – 15 on clay with one title in Portugal at a W15 ITF event.
Clara has won seven titles on hard courts since her win in Portugal, and going back to the 2023 French Open she has won 10 of her matches in straight sets.
SAVILLE VS TAUSON HTH – STAT OF THE MATCH
There is no head-to-head meeting between Saville and Tauson on any surface. Tauson holds a big edge on clay despite being nine years younger than Saville at 21.
