It’s time for qualifying at the China Open and a match between Sara Sorribes Tormo and Arianne Hartono is among the clashes on Monday in Beijing. The Spaniard arrives at this WTA1000 event as a considerable favorite with odds floating near -225 to get past the Dane.

Hartono reeled off five straight wins in Thailand before being ousted out of the semifinal by Laura Siegemund last weekend.

The Spaniard took last week off after a quarterfinal exit in Monsastir, Tunisia, and EJ Garr’s Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Arianne Hartono prediction features odds at -115 on the Dane to keep the match close.

Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Arianne Hartono Prediction: Spaniard Heavy Chalk in China

  • Prediction: Arianne Hartono +4 Games Handicap
  • Best Odds: -115
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on September 23, 2024.

Sara Sorribes Tormo is the clear favorite to win this match against Arianne Hartono as the line setters have issued a -225 on the Spaniard for this qualifying affair in China.

That is plenty of respect for the Spaniard who hasn’t played her best tennis lately but I don’t see it that way. I expected to see -150 when the qualifying draw was announced in this Seventh Qualifier match but now we get more games to put in our pockets.

At +4 on the handicap, Hartono will give Sorribes Tormo all she can handle today despite being ranked 180th on the WTA Tour. When I gave out Hartono to upset Hontama last week it was a valiant effort to win that match after dropping the first set as an underdog.

Sorribes Tormo is 5 – 11 in the last 16 outings and she’s been hanging around the top 100 despite the poor results lately. I am not buying that Sorribes Tormo can convincingly beat anyone right now and I won’t be shocked if Hartono wins this match outright.

After a 29 – 17 campaign a year ago, Sorribes Tormo was ranked inside the top 50 to start the campaign and that number has dropped to 109th currently.

At +150, the Over 2.5 Sets prop also has my attention because I don’t think Hartono will be swept out of this event. Expect a match that goes the distance with Hartono covering the +4 to decide this qualifying match at the China Open.

SARA SORRIBES TORMO RECENT FORM

Sorribes Tormo is 6 – 11 on hardcourts this season, and the run of six straight winning seasons is in jeopardy.

At 15 – 23 this campaign, Sara won’t have a winning record on any surface in 2024 which hasn’t happened since 2017.

ARIANNE HARTONO RECENT FORM

Hartono is 7 – 3 in her last 10 outings and after the flop effort in South Korea, the Dutch native picked up steam with five wins in Thailand to continue the Asian swing.

Arianne is 30 – 18 on hardcourts and all her wins have come on hard courts in 2024 (0 – 2 Grass, 0 – 2 Clay).

SORRIBES TORMO VS HARTONO H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Today’s clash in Beijing marks the first meeting between Sara Sorribes Tormo and Arianne Hartono.

The winner of this Seventh Qualifier semifinal will go on to face either Varvara Lepchenko or Zeynep Sonmez for the right to play in the main draw.
