Max Hans Rehberg vs Luka Mikrut Prediction: Young Croatian Undervalued In Clay Match
- Prediction: Mikrut to win
- Best Odds: 2.06
- Bookmaker: Pinnacle
- Stakes: 3/10
Odds as at 2:30 am UK Time on September 5th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
I know the young Croatian has had a tough run in recent times, but I just can’t have him as the underdog here against the overly aggressive Rehberg. Especially considering Mikrut can play front foot tennis as well and is a more natural grinder on the dirt. He also possesses the more consistent game.
The market is likely reacting to Mikrut’s middling form since his runs at the ITF level and the Zagreb Challenger back in June, but I don’t think it’s been that much worse than his German counterpart.
Rehberg has managed to string together a few wins in recent weeks on the surface, but I don’t think any of the victories stand out as particularly impressive.
Max Hans Rehberg Recent Form
Also worth noting with regards to Rehberg’s give wins in six matches between the Como Challenger and this one in Tulln is that 80% of those Ws have come in qualifying – thus against much less threatening competition.
The best win of the five has to be Alexander Weis and I’m not sure that, along with a few other low-level players he’s beat, he should be the favourite against the promising teen.
Luka Mikrut Recent Form
Mikrut turned heads a few months back after winning an ITF event, dropping just one set along the way, and then heading to a Challenger on home soil and going all the way to the final before running out of steam against a top-100 and former top-25 player in Damir Dzumhur.
This season has seen Mikrut add a bit more to his game, especially on the forehand side, where he doesn’t mind hitting through the ball and dictating play.
His form has struggled a bit since then – not surprising at his age – but I still think that all things being equal he should be a favourite in this match. Those struggles may justify him being a favourite in the 1.80-1.85 range, but to be the underdog I think is taking it a bit too far.
