The quarterfinals are set and among the four highlighted matches at the Wuhan Open is a clash between Qinwen Zheng and Jasmine Paolini.

Zheng is 2 – 0 against Paolini from two meetings in 2023 and the Chinese native arrives at this quarterfinal as a heavy favorite to land in the semis this weekend.

At -275, Zheng has the chalk but Paolini hopes to erase the history books and upend the 6th-ranked player on the WTA Tour in China.

EJ Garr’s Qinwen Zheng vs. Jasmine Paolini prediction is calling for a match that goes the distance and the payout is sweet with a +160 offer on the table!

Qinwen Zheng vs Jasmine Paolini Prediction: A Spot in the Semis At Stake

  • Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
  • Best Odds: +160
  • Bookmaker: Unibet
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on October 11, 2024. Odds may now differ.

Jasmine Paolini is the 3-seed in Wuhan and is ranked 7th on the WTA Tour.
Qinwen Zheng is the 5-seed in this WTA1000 event in her native China and ranked 6th on the WTA Tour.

That is well and good but this match is setting up as an epic battle that goes the distance with the semifinals in sight.

BetMGM is posting a -135 line on Jasmine Paolini to win any set in this quarterfinal affair and the Italian will get that accomplished. As a +230 underdog, Jasmine has no right to win this match with the crowd against her on Centre Court at the Wuhan Open.

I am not about to go near that juiced offer, but if Paolini wins that set I expect we will go the distance because Zheng will respond. She’ll have to make the comeback and the +174 on Paolini to win the first set at Pinnacle is my first offer from this match.

That is a lovely offer and despite Jasmine not being at her best lately I still expect her to face this challenge and put up a big effort. We’ve already seen what Paolini can do during her best campaign and the WTA Finals should feature both of these ladies inside the top 8 of the WTA Rankings.

I have the match going Over 2.5 sets and Unibet has the best offer at +160 for us to take advantage of when the clash goes the distance!

QINWEN ZHENG RECENT FORM

Qinwen Zheng is 6 – 1 over the last 7 outings with a loss to Karolina Muchova accounting for the lone setback. Ironically, Paolini recently lost to Muchova as well.

Since July 16, Zheng has a 22 – 3 record and has won the last two Palermo events on Paolini’s home soil. The Gold Medal from the Summer Olympics in Paris is in safekeeping too!

Zheng is 23 – 9 on hard courts this season and has produced a 43 – 15 record in 2024 in a position to have a winning campaign for the sixth straight year.

JASMINE PAOLINI RECENT FORM

Jasmine Paolini is 6 – 2 over the last 8 outings and besides the loss to Muchova, the loss to Magda Linette in Beijing was a surprise upset. (Linette is competing in one of the four quarterfinals at Wuhan)

Paolini is 19 – 10 on hard courts this season and needs one more win to clinch a 40-win campaign (39 – 17).

With appearances at the French Open and Wimbledon finals, Paolini has won 1 tournament in Dubai this campaign but is in a position to be playing for the big trophy at the year-end WTA Finals with Zheng.

ZHENG VS PAOLINI H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Zheng is 2 – 0 against Jasmine Paolini and the two meetings happened last season.

They first met in Palermo and it was an epic Final match that decided a champion. Zheng won the battle in three sets and Paolini won the middle frame to force the third set.

Last October at Zhengzhou, Zheng swept Paolini in straight sets in the semifinal at 2 and 3 and went on to win the tournament.
