After a welcomed day off from the Paris heat, Qinwen Zheng and Donna Vekic will battle it out for the Gold and Silver Medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics on Saturday.

Zheng is carrying the chalk into this Gold Medal match with odds at -250 to put a precious piece of hardware around her neck.

Donna Vekic ended Anna Schmiedlova’s run in the semifinals in convincing fashion and she’s guaranteed an appearance on the podium.

EJ Garr’s Qinwen Zheng vs Donna Vekic prediction features odds at +150 but who is surprised by that? No one, let’s go for the Gold!

Qinwen Zheng vs Donna Vekic Prediction: Gold, Silver, Pride on the Line!

  • Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
  • Best Odds: +150
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated 7:00 am UK Time on August 2, 2024.

I covered the Bronze Medal match and already discussed the Swiatek situation, and we wouldn’t be talking about that had Zheng not played her ass off on Thursday in Paris.

The 7th-ranked China native took advantage of 36 unforced errors against the World’s #1 who hadn’t lost in Paris in forever and a day.

Qinwen threw down six Aces and broke Swiatek six times which is an absurd stat for the Polish superstar who rarely falls apart like that. Emotions got the best of Iga and Zheng kept pouring them on like molasses while enjoying a Parisian crowd that had no problem with a big upset.

The underdog story is now on Donna Vekic, and I still can’t pick up my jaw from the 6 – 0 second set that sent Schmiedlova to the Bronze Medal match. Vekic needed just over an hour to end an impressive run for the Slovakian but now Vekic will have hardware around her neck at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The stakes are high and I am smelling a three-set affair to end the Women’s Summer Olympic Tennis tournament. We’re going the distance because Vekic is taking a set against Zheng, and Zheng will have to battle to win two sets to claim the Gold.

Taking the Roland Garros stage for your Nation with so much on the line will present nerves and excitement, and that will have to be tamed. Whoever does it best takes Gold so good luck to both of them!

QINWEN ZHENG RECENT FORM

Qinwen Zheng has only dropped two sets in Paris this week, and the win over Swiatek doesn’t mean the job is done. Beating the World’s #1 was emotional for Zheng who was 0 – 6 against Swiatek going into the semis.

Qinwen is carrying a 10-match win streak on clay into the Gold Medal match and she is a considerable favorite to hear the Chinese anthem on the podium.

DONNA VEKIC RECENT FORM

Donna Vekic has only dropped a set in five matches at the Olympic Games, and the Croatian native was almost out against Marta Kostyuk before the easy win over Schmiedlova. Vekic mounted a comeback from down 4 – 0 and 5 – 2 in the third set against Kostyuk and has a top-10 win over Coco Gauff in Paris.

Vekic is 8 – 4 on clay this season after a 3 – 4 start on the dirt, and now she is leaving Paris with either a Silver or Gold Medal.

ZHENG VS VEKIC H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Zheng and Vekic have split a pair of wins from two meetings.

In 2021 at Courmayeur, Vekic earned a straight-sets win over Zheng in the round of 16 and went on to win the title in Italy.

Last year the two met in China and Zheng exacted some revenge with a three-set win at the Zhuhai Open
