Qinwen Zheng has odds at -220 to walk all over Ashlyn Krueger, but the American has already proven to be a tough out at the Miami Open.

Krueger was a +310 underdog against Elena Rybakina in the second round, and the  Missouri native didn’t let that big win go to waste. Ashlyn was slightly favored at -115 to defeat Leylah Fernandez, and the win over Rybakina gave her the confidence to take out the Canadian in three sets this weekend.

Krueger started to gain confidence in Abu Dhabi, and the first win against Fernandez was a part of that run to the finals  A loss to Belinda Bencic in the finals was still a great result for the 40th-ranked American, and wins over Kasatkina and Kessler were included in that run.

Zheng is facing a third American in this WTA1000 event after straight-set wins over Lauren Davis and Taylor Townsend. Townsend pushed Zheng to a tie-break in the second set, but the qualifier ran out of gas and couldn’t prevent the sweep by the Chinese native.

I have this match going the distance, and BetMGM is showing -165 odds on the American to win any set in this fourth-round affair from Miami Gardens. We’re not going near those horrible odds, but the fact that they have met before at a Major and went the distance also points me to a lengthy rematch. 

Zheng and Krueger met at last year’s Australian Open, and the Chinese native needed three sets to get past the American in that opening-round clash. The Over 2.5 sets at +143 is the bet to make.

QINWEN ZHENG RECENT FORM

Qinwen Zheng is only 6 – 4 this season, but the Chinese native is 5 – 1 over the last six outings with the loss to Iga Swiatek at Indian Wells.

Zheng is only 22-years-old but completed a sixth straight campaign with a winning record after recording a 52 – 18 record last season.

ASHLYN KRUEGER RECENT FORM

Ashlyn Krueger is 15 – 8 in 2025 and has won at least three outings in four of the eight tournaments entered this season. 

Krueger started the season 3 – 0 at Brisbane before the loss to Polina Kudermetova and won three more matches at Adelaide taking advantage of the Lucky Loser opportunity.

The 20-year-old American went 4 – 0 in Abu Dhabi reaching the finals and is 3 – 0 this past week at the Miami Open.
