Yulia Putintseva and Sloane Stephens clash in the second round of Section 1 at the Italian Open in Rome this Thursday. Rain spoiled the conclusion of a handful of Wednesday matches, so let’s hope the weather holds up on Thursday in the Italian Capital City. Our Putintseva vs Stephens prediction is listed below with odds at +140.

Ej has been serving Aces all over the place this week with his WTA predictions, including his bonus bets that have all come to fruition.

Putintseva and Stephens last met on the clay at the French Open last season and Sloane took a 3-set victory to advance in Paris. These two ladies have become quite familiar with each other with this being the seventh meeting between them.

Let’s see what bets Ej has made for this Section 1 Round 2 affair at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome on Thursday.

Yulia Putintseva and Sloane Stephens meet for the seventh time in their careers, and they have mastered how to take matches into the third set. All six of their clashes have gone the distance, and I don’t see why this affair won’t produce a similar result in Rome.

I am not one to follow a trend to put my money on the board, but this 3-set stuff is too good to ignore and these two keep doing it. As you have seen from me around here, suggesting that matches go into a third set is my cup of tea.

Putintseva got past wild card Martina Trevisan in her first-round battle in the top half of the bracket, 6 – 3, 6 – 4. Yulia broke Trevisan four times and served four aces, although that 68% first-serve percentage isn’t that impressive.

Being from America, I get why handicappers wonder about the ladies from the States on this surface. I played quite a bit of tennis in my life here in New York, and we don’t get access to clay courts as commonly as you see in Europe and South America.

Naturally, the pros can get as much time as they need on clay if they take the time to learn the nuances of the surface and movement of the ball, etc.

Sloane Stephens needs to be recognized! This girl has worked her ass off to be a better clay player, and I see the results if no one else does. Stephens just reeled off seven straight wins on clay, including a title in Rouen, France

As I will almost always do here, I give you a bonus bet for this match. Sloane Stephens to win this match and the Over 22.5 Games Total features a price of +270 in a Same-Game Parlay.

Depending on your book, you should get +140 on the Over 2.5 Sets, and that is your main bet on Thursday for this match.

YULIA PUTINTSEVA RECENT FORM

Putintseva is 5 – 1 on clay this season, although she has only competed in Madrid and Rome. She advanced to the quarterfinals in Spain before losing to Rybakina and has one win here in Italy as mentioned above.

Putintseva has three clay titles in her career, although she has not lifted any hardware since her last win in 2021 at Budapest.

SLOANE STEPHENS RECENT FORM

Stephens has produced a 9 – 2 record on clay in 2024, and she has two clay court titles in her career. She just won the Rouen event in France and stretched her win streak to 7 matches before losing to Sakkari in Madrid.

Since the 2011 campaign, Stephens has only had two years with a losing record on clay.

PUTINTSEVA VS STEPHENS H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

We have pointed out that the stat of the match comes from the head-to-head history between Putintseva and Stephens.

The two have met six times and played to 3-sets on every occasion while splitting two matches on clay.

The last time they met was in the 2023 French Open and Stephens took the win, two games to one.
