- Stakes: 3/10 & 2/10
Odds as at 3:30 am UK Time on May 21st, 2024. Odds may now differ.
That’s a significant move for a match that I would make the case was an outlier more than anything.
Not only does Piros have far more wins, titles, and experience on the red dirt than the American, but his style also translates to the clay, where Svajda’s defending may be advantageous, but his lack of offensive ability or topspin becomes much more pronounced.
I’m happy to back Piros in a spot where I believe we’ve seen an overreaction to a win a few weeks back for Svajda in this matchup.
I’m also going to back the -4.5 game handicap rather than the -4 with Piros likely to win by a comfortable margin if he’s at 100% physically.

Zsombor Piros Recent Form
Another season for Piros where it feels like tournaments are all-or-nothing endeavors. Just 15-12 in the year, Piros has somehow managed to win a Challenger and make the final of another. Those two runs make up 60% of his wins throughout the season nearing the end of its fifth month.
Mired in a four-match losing skid since losing a close final in Croatia, Piros did play a competitive three-set match against a strong clay courter in Duje Ajdukovic last time out and appears to be finding at least a bit of form after those two poor losses to Svajda and Alejandro Moro Canas.
There is some risk in backing him, but not enough for me to have the implied odds of him winning down below the 75% mark against such a poor clay court player.
Zachary Svajda Recent Form
The win against Piros was only the second of his career above the ITF level on red clay. Not so coincidentally, both came against players who broke down physically during the match.
Not only is his clay record 3-12 since the start of the 2022 season but he’s lost badly far more often than not. Further, many of those matches were against players who aren’t exactly world-beaters on the surface themselves. Needless to say, the 21-year-old plays his best tennis on hard courts.
The comfort with the higher bounce and movement simply isn’t there and his game lacks offense even on quicker surfaces, let alone on slower clay courts.
Zsombor Piros vs Zachary Svajda H2H – Stat of the Match
The aforementioned Svajda win from a few weeks ago in Cagliari is the only match these two have played.
