Lucia Bronzetti played the underdog role in her last match against fellow Italian Martina Trevisan, and her bark was just as big as her bite! 

Bronzetti cruised past Moroccan qualifier Malak El Allami in her first-round battle in Rabat, and she dismantled Trevisan yesterday, 2 & 3. Lucia’s serve was solid, as she converted 73% of her first service points, and took advantage of Trevisan’s inability to hold serve. 

Trevisan put herself in a position to be broken 13 times and Bronzetti obliged her on five occasions en route to the convincing victory.

Now back in the quarterfinals again after winning the trophy in Rabat last season, Bronzetti is three wins away from claiming the fourth clay title of her career.

Peyton Stearns came in the clay season struggling to get anything right on hard courts only winning 3 of her 11 matches. Stearns is 6 – 4 on clay in 2024, but she has not put a string of three wins together since last September.

I expect the defending champion will stay in form, and I am surprised that we are getting the price at +138 on Bronzetti to win this QF affair. I am seeing the 2 – 0 sets prop at +280 should the Italian sweep the American off the court, and that is a tempting offer! 

The line setters expect Stearns to win this match but I don’t think she will win a set against Bronzetti in Morocco on Thursday.
