Paula Badosa is a generous favorite in the third round of the Cincinnati Open as the Spaniard takes on Yulia Putintseva on Friday morning.

An 11 AM local start time in Ohio has Badosa and Putintseva playing the first match of the day at this WTA1000 event, and Badosa has the chalk set at -200 to advance to the quarters.

The weather might not cooperate in the Queen City but EJ Garr’s Paula Badosa vs Yulia Putintseva prediction features odds at +143 if the rain holds up.

Paula Badosa vs Yulia Putintseva Prediction: We’re Going the Distance

  • Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
  • Best Odds: +143
  • Bookmaker: Unibet
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated  7:00 am UK Time on August 16, 2024.

As you can see I expect Paula Badosa and Yulia Putintseva to give us a third-round match worth watching because we’re going the distance!

Badosa’s serve was up and down against Kalinskaya on Thursday, as the Spaniard threw down 5 Aces but gave back 7 double faults. Paula still cruised to a 3 & 2 win in the second round because that same serve was only broken once all afternoon.

The straight-sets win cost me the play on the Over 2.5 Sets prop yesterday but I am going back to the well to drink a +143 by putting it on the board again today.

While Paula is playing more like she did a couple of years ago when she was in the top 10, what a win it was for Putintseva yesterday against Coco Gauff! That match was televised here in the States and I sat here soaking it all in.

Coco was broken on her first serve of the match and then responded with the break in response to that. Gauff was broken again to go down 2 – 1 and Putintseva took the first set, 6 – 4. Despite Coco blasting 8 Aces to one over Yulia the pivotal point in the match came when Coco went up 4 – 2 in the second set after breaking Putintseva.

Coco lost her next two serves which cost her the match so I expect Yulia to give Badosa a battle. The Over 2.5 Sets prop goes on the board at +143.

PAULA BADOSA RECENT FORM

In 2021, Paula Badosa smashed her way into the top 10 of the rankings for the first time. It’s been a long battle as the Spaniard holds the 37th spot on the WTA Tour which could jump with a nice run in Cincinnati.

Paula nabbed the Washington DC title to re-start the hardcourt swing leading to the US Open Major here in New York. Badosa is 9 – 1 between DC, Toronto, and Cincinnati and has always had success against her Kazakhstan opponent today.

YULIA PUTINTSEVA RECENT FORM

Putintseva is 10 – 1 from her last 11 outings although this is the first event since Wimbledon for the Kazakhstan native. After a run to the Birmingham title and her first career win on grass, Yulia is playing confidently after a big win over Coco Gauff on Thursday.

Putintseva is almost guaranteed a winning record on all three surfaces for the first time since 2019. With a 16 – 9 record on hardcourts, the 8 – 1 number on grass was impressive considering Yulia had only won 2 times in three previous years of outings on the surface (2 – 6).

BADOSA VS PUTINTSEVA HTH –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Paula Badosa is 3 – 1 against Yulia Putintseva although their third meeting in Toronto ended with the Spanish native retiring after one set.

The first time they met was at Wimbledon in 2021 and Badosa advanced with a 4 & 1 win in the grass Major.

The first meeting of two clashes in 2022 was in Miami and Badaso earned a second straight-sets win before the meeting in Toronto as I mentioned above.

The most recent contest happened at this year’s French Open in Paris, and after winning the first set Putintseva was dashed in a three-set loss.
