Our second preview of the day comes from another one of the three ATP 250s taking place this week, with Cameron Norrie vs Arthur Rinderknech from the Delray Beach Open coming into focus.

Rindernkech’s win probability is only about 36%, while Norrie is favoured to win at 1.45 odds. The handicap is 2.5 games and the total games line is 22.5.

Jon Reid’s Norrie vs Rinderknech prediction is for Norrie to cover the handicap.

  • Best Odds: 1.80 & 2.20

Odds as at 4:00 am UK Time on February 12th, 2025. Odds may now differ.

If there was ever a match where the surface speed and matchup were important, this would be it. Needless to say in quicker conditions, I don’t know if I’d trust Norrie to cover a handicap against the Frenchman.

Yes, he’d have a big advantage in terms of shot tolerance and his topspin-heavy forehand going into the weak Rinderknech backhand would eventually lead to errors regardless of the surface, but on a slower hard court, Norrie should be able to really extend the rallies and maximise the number of errors he can force.

Of course, the first serve from the big righty who once played college tennis in the United States is going to net him some cheap points. Even in slower conditions. With Delray Beach always playing on the slower side though, the number of cheap points being limited matters and as the humidity in South Florida causes the balls to fluff up and become slower, that number of cheap points Rinderknech can generate should decrease further.

Norrie has been going through a rough patch for a while now, but this is not a top tier opponent, nor is it an opponent who is at his best in the conditions on offer.

This match presents Norrie with a terrific opportunity to get himself into a quarterfinal and perhaps turn his form around.

Cameron Norrie Recent Form

After beating one of the sport’s better young players in Learner Tien and then defeating Lorenzo Sonego to reach the final eight in Hong Kong, it seemed as though Norrie was getting his 2025 season off on the right foot and potentially getting his career back on track.

That notion was dashed fairly quickly though, as he then lost to a poor hard court player in Facundo Diaz Acosta in Auckland in a match where he was visibly frustrated. He’s still trying to regain that incredible solidity that was once his calling card from the forehand wing and while he’s been searching for that, he’s suffered a few tough losses.

Now, he did take a set from Matteo Berrettini and nearly defeated another massive server in Reilly Opelka, so it isn’t as though he’s lost more than once to someone he’d be expected to defeat, and he also has an upset win against Alex Michelsen on his CV this year.

Rinderknech does fit the big server profile, but he’s far from having the quality of either Berrettini or Opelka, so this matchup should be slightly more manageable for the lefty. Not to mention the conditions being better for him to try and break down the strong service game of Rinderknech.

Arthur Rinderknech Recent Form

As for the 29-year-old, it’s been an underwhelming start to his season. He’s just 2-5 and it’s not as though he’s been tasked time and again with tough competition.

Yoshihito Nishioka beat him fairly easily, Chris O’Connell sent him packing in straight sets and even in his comeback attempt against a vomiting Frances Tiafoe he came up short. His wins? Against the mercurial Dmitry Popko who plies his trade at the Challenger level more often than not and the Harold Mayot match we previewed that saw the younger of the two French players blow a slew of first set break chances en route to a third set loss.

Nothing overly impressive. His game is simply too basic and overly reliant on his first serve and forehand combination. That may help him keep matches close and squeeze out wins in quicker conditions, but this should be a much tougher task.

Cameron Norrie vs Arthur Rinderknech H2H – Stat of the Match

Norrie has had success in the past against Rinderknech, but this is the first time in years that they’ve played. Perhaps Norrie will have his 2-0 lead in the back of his mind, but I’m not sure that the record itself will play much of a role in the proceedings on Wednesday. The matchup advantages that led Norrie to winning those two matches are far more important.
