The 2024 Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem has 32 players in the main draw, and a top-bracket clash is set between Nadia Podoroska and Tatjana Maria in Rabat, Morocco. Since winning the San Luis Potosi Challenger event in Mexico, Podoroska has struggled to find wins having lost 4 of her last 5 matches on clay. Our Podoroska vs Maria prediction features odds at +167 which can be found below.

Tatjana Maria has earned a title on clay each of the past two campaigns, and this will likely be her last shot at a trophy in Morocco  A title run may not be likely in Rabat, but an upset in her first-round battle is certainly achievable.

PODOROSKA VS MARIA PREDICTION: AN UPSET BREWING IN MOROCCO

  • Prediction: Tatjana Maria Moneyline
  • Best Odds: +167
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time May 20, 2024. Odds may now differ.

Nadia Podoroska is favored to win her first match in Morocco in seven years, although victories have been tough to come by lately for the 27-year-old Argentinian. Since starting the clay portion of the campaign with five straight wins and a title in Mexico, Nadia has been knocked out of her first match in four of her last five events on the dirt.

Tatjana Maria is in search of her first clay title since taking Bogata last season, and she has done a great job of opening events with a win, Maria has participated in 14 tournaments this season, and only four times has she failed to win her first match of the event.

Maria has participated in four previous tourneys in Morocco and has three wins in her opening round affairs in her career. Tatjana holds an 11 – 13 record this season but has played well in six meetings against Podoroska.

These two ladies met to start the year in Hobart, although Podoroska could not finish the match which gave Maria that win to open the 2024 campaign in Australia. The pair met on clay in Bucharest in 2017, and that was also a match that Tatjana advanced because Nadia couldn’t finish the game.

Let’s hope these ladies get through this Monday afternoon affair, and I will admit that I like Maria to get past Nadia in Rabat. Podoroska has not played well on clay except for one tournament she won in March, and that doesn’t do enough for me to pay the juice near -200 or higher.

My prediction calls for Maria to win this match in three sets, and I see that Over 2.5 Sets price at a pleasant +150. Make that your bonus bet, and expect Tatjana to get past Nadia in Morocco.

NADIA PODOROSKA RECENT FORM

Nadia went 5 – 0 en route to her title in Mexico in March, but the list of ladies she had to get through isn’t exactly filled with top-quality opponents. Cocciaretto was the highest-ranked player she defeated in that event, and she is just outside of the top 50 in the WTA World Rankings.

Podoroska is 6 – 4 on clay in 2024, and she was 37 – 21 combined on clay the two previous seasons on the WTA Tour.

TATJANA MARIA RECENT FORM

Tatjana holds a 4 – 5 record on clay in 2024 and her overall record this season is a mere 12 – 14. Maria has won 43 games in the last two seasons, and she will need to win more than just one match per tournament to hit that number this campaign.

The only event Maria has won more than just one match came in Bogota last month, although she has yet to win three straight games since last August in Cleveland.

PODOROSKA VS MARIA H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Maria holds a 4 – 2 edge in the series with Podoroska although two of those affairs have ended with Nadia retiring early.

Both of Podoroska’s wins over Maria have needed three sets.
