While qualifying at the China Open resumes on Tuesday, the main draw battles also begin and Moyuka Uchijima will face Han Shi out of Section 3 to kick off the festivities.
Wildcard Han Shi is ranked 240th in the WTA Tour and the China native will be a considerable underdog at this WTA1000 event in her homeland.
With odds reaching -450, the Japanese native is expected to ease past Han Shi and our resident WTA expert is pointing toward the total for this affair.

The China Open kicks off the 25th version of the tournament this week as qualifying continues into Tuesday to complete the main draw.
Han Shi was given direct access to the dance as a wildcard but the 260th-ranked Chinese native is a big underdog in Beijing against Moyuka Uchijima.
Uchijima was ranked 199th at the end of the 2023 campaign and after reaching as high as 59th a month ago the Japan native enters this event ranked 64th on the WTA Tour.
I am turning to the total in this match because I expect Uchijima to earn the straight-sets win and I don’t see Han Shi as a big challenge for the Japanese native.
I am not about to say that Uchijima is in great shape coming into this event because she’s lost five of her last 6 outings. That shouldn’t prevent Uchijima from having plenty of success today in China so I am pointing to this total to stay under the 20 games.
It would take a mini-miracle for Shi to take a set from Uchijima and I also think the wildcard will win 6 games in this contest.
I see it as a 6 – 4, 6 – 2 type of result for Uchijima and the line setters agree posting a -155 on the 2 – 0 sweep of Shi in this first-round clash in Beijing.
She is a player that competes in WTA50-level events and this is a much bigger WTA1000 tourney that will see the 19-year-old overmatched.
MOYUKA UCHIJIMA RECENT FORM
Moyuka Uchijima is certainly not in the best form lately having lost five of her last outings but this match is against an opponent ranked well outside the top 200.
Uchijima has earned five tournament wins in 2024 and all 12 of her tourney wins have been won at the ITF/Challenger level.
With a 23 – 12 hardcourt record, Uchijima is 47 – 20 this season needing three wins to secure a second 50-win campaign (‘22).
HAN SHI RECENT FORM
Han Shi has claimed three tourney wins in 2024 and all three of them have been won in China.
Shi only competed in one clay event this year and ran off 5 wins en route to the WTA50 Anning title.
She is 34 – 19 on hardcourts this season and she’s made a considerable jump up the rankings from 514th to 230 in just a year.
UCHIJIMA VS SHI H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
This will mark the first meeting between Uchijima and Shi on the WTA Tour.
The winner of this affair will advance to face Magda Linette in the second round.
