Monday Tennis Best Bet: ATP French Open, Hamad Medjedovic vs Marcos Giron
Hamad Medjedovic vs Marcos Giron Best Bet: Monday, May 29th
That Friday match went about as expected. Aslan Karatsev was pretty dominant for most of the match. He also had a slight hiccup early in the second set as he went down a quick break of serve. A high level with a random dip in form mixed in is the Russian’s modus operandi as they say.
For Monday, we’re into the main draw at Roland Garros, with the first round offering up a plethora of matches to choose from.
Let’s focus on the matchup between Hamad Medjedovic and Marcos Giron for our best bet.

Hamad Medjedovic vs Marcos Giron Preview
May 29th, 13:30 (UK Time)
Much like Friday’s preview, this one features an explosive ball striker in Medjedovic, but he also has a pretty decent advantage on clay courts.
The young gun from Serbia has already won a pair of events on the lower-level Challenger circuit and has accumulated 15 wins on this surface in 2023.
I’d also argue that many of his wins are more impressive than the wins Giron has had this year on the dirt, despite coming at a lower level.
Giron hasn’t been great this season and it’s well-known he’s not one that thrives during this part of the year. In fact, all five of his wins have come on either quicker clay courts (Houston) or in altitude (Madrid, Munich and Geneva). To top that off, the only quality win he has on his resume is beating Roberto Carballes Baena.
Of all the tour regulars Medjedovic could’ve drawn after winning his qualifying matches, this is one of the slots he probably would have preferred for his first best-of-five sets match.
That qualifying campaign wasn’t an easy one either. He required three sets in each win, and dispatched three quality clay courters from that draw, all of whom brought a different style or matchup quirk to the table.
I was impressed with his problem solving and I’m also impressed with him looking stronger in third sets – something that was once a weakness. He may not be the fittest guy on tour, but those concerns have been alleviated to an extent.
With the surface advantage and good form entering this one, the fact that his serve and forehand are far bigger weapons than Giron’s is just the icing on the cake for me.
Hamad Medjedovic vs Marcos Giron Best Bet
The opening price was appealing to back the youngster in this one, considering he’s got a bigger game and more comfort on clay courts.
At the 1.81 price point that this one has been bet to, I’m going to increase my stake.
I understand backing a youngster to win in this best-of-five set format that they aren’t used to can be tricky, but that’s the only thing keeping this from being one of my bigger bets of the season.
With his talent getting him this win more often than not for me, and him having to get this done relatively quickly if he’s going to get it done from a logical standpoint, I’ll also back him to win in three or four sets.
