Elmer Moller vs Blaz Rola Prediction: Rola Catching Moller at the Right Time for Potential Upset

  • Prediction: Rola to win
  • Best Odds: 2.93
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 2/10

Odds updated at 4:00 am UK Time on September 30th, 2024.

Tough break for Moller, who didn’t end up getting a special exempt spot into the main draw in Braga after reaching the semis last week in Lisbon. Now it’s not too bad of a travel spot as he’s remaining in Portugal, but it is a tough task, as the Lisbon Challenger was plagued by rain and as a result, Moller had to play three matches in two days before the quick turnaround to play qualifying Sunday.

This will mark his fifth match in four days and for someone who’s played upwards of 70 matches this season, that is a spot I’ll look to oppose him in.

He has a strong game and has made strides this season, but he’s far from being a dominant player and I think there’s more than enough value here to play the veteran lefty.

Rola has dropped off a bit, but is still a serviceable player and is certainly good enough to pull off an upset if Moller is showing signs of fatigue.

Elmer Moller Recent Form

Even taking into account the strong form it takes for someone to have to play this much in four days, it’s worth noting that the 21-year-old did lose in qualifying in Lisbon to Clement Tabur – not exactly a stalwart at this level.

There have also losses to lower-end Challenger or ITF Tour level players in Matthys Erhard, Hazem Naw, Petr Nesterov, and Max Houkes in the last few months.

I think his still-developing attacking game leaves him more vulnerable to those kinds of upsets.

His backhand is a major strength though and he’s fairly consistent, which is why he’s also been able to win so many matches and be such a large favourite.

We’ll see how he deals with the lefty from Slovenia on Monday.

Blaz Rola Recent Form

Rola hasn’t played a whole lot this season. At 33 years old, he’s played a lot of Bundesliga and Nationalliga tennis.

He has played some decent matches though and his opening match in qualifying against Jacopo Berrettini went very well.

Now taking on a tired youngster, I think Rola has a decent chance to pull off another upset, with his heavier serve being pretty strong and certainly capable of wearing his opposition down.

I’m not going to try and sell Rola as someone in fine form or the kind of player he once was, but situationally, this is a great chance to back him at a nice underdog price.

Elmer Moller vs Blaz Rola H2H – Stat of the Match

With Moller being fairly new to the Challenger circuit and Rola not having played much this season, it’s not surprising that the two haven’t met before at the professional level.
