A new week brings a slew of betting opportunities on the men’s circuit, with the ATP Tour having a pair of 500s in Rotterdam and Dallas, while the Challenger Tour offers up a handful of tournaments as well.

Let’s get the week going by looking at a match from qualifying at the Play In Challenger in Lille, France. It’s Rudolf Molleker vs Arthur Bouquier for a spot in the main draw.

Bouquier’s win probability is nearly 50%, while Molleker is favoured to win at 1.85 odds. The handicap is 0.5 games and the total games line is 23.

Jon Reid’s Molleker vs Bouquier prediction is for Molleker to win.

Rudolf Molleker vs Arthur Bouquier Prediction: German Best in Slower Conditions, but Price Too Big to Pass

  • Prediction: Molleker to win
  • Best Odds: 1.85
  • Bookmaker: Unibet
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as at 10:00 pm UK Time on February 2nd, 2025. Odds may now differ.

I can’t pass up this price on Molleker to begin the week. Look, I prefer him in slower indoor conditions or on clay, but sometimes, even when a player isn’t on their preferred surface, they’re still simply a much more talented player and a tier above their opponent.

That’s the case in this tilt, with Molleker having to be a favourite by my estimation. Bouquier doesn’t have as big of a game, he doesn’t play at as high of a level on the tours consistently and even statistically, there is nothing on his Challenger resume that would indicate he’s better than Molleker.

Has to be the German for me at these odds, even if he may need a minute to get acclimated to the conditions on return.

Rudolf Molleker Recent Form

Molleker snapped a three-match losing skid with his first qualifying round win over another Frenchman, Florent Bax. He had made a semifinal to start his year in Oeiras, though that was against a weaker field as most Challenger guys were down under gearing up for Australian Open qualifying.

Still, it’s a solid result and his two defeats in the following weeks came against Edas Butvilas (a solid youngster) and Jakub Paul in a close two sets in a week that saw the Swiss make the semis as a qualifier.

Nothing in those losses concerns me with regards to a match against someone of Bouquier’s calibre, and him beating another Frenchman in a fairly routine manner in the opening round of qualifying is reassuring for this contest.

Arthur Bouquier Recent Form

Bouquier’s start to 2025 has been even worse. He picked up his first win on Sunday, as he moved on thanks to a late, and strange, retirement from Ivan Gakhov – a player that some bookmakers won’t post odds on anymore after rumblings about alleged fixing in the past.

Other than that, the pro found primarily on the ITF Tour had not won a match, losing to a pair of lowly-ranked and rated players in tournaments at the lower end of the professional game.

I’m not sure what exactly Bouquier brings to the table in this match other than perhaps being a bit more comfortable in the conditions on offer. That may be a slight advantage, but it’s certainly not enough to make me believe he’s just as likely to win this match as his German counterpart and advance to the main draw.

Rudolf Molleker vs Arthur Bouquier H2H – Stat of the Match

This is the first time these two have met at any level of the professional game. If we look at the hold and break rates of these two on hard courts at this level in the last year, Molleker has some disappointing results, coming in at 76% and 15%, respectively. That’s still well clear of Bouquier though, who held at a 70% clip and broke his opponents just 14% of the time.

What’s more interesting is that the sample size for Bouquier is just three matches. That tells me that not only does he struggle in Challengers, but he also has a tough time even getting into these events.
