Hamad Medjedovic vs Rinky Hijikata Prediction: Oppose Medjedovic in First Match Back From Injury in Tough Conditions

  • Predictions: Hijikata to win
  • Best Odds: 2.63
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stakes: 2/10

Odds as at 2:00 am UK Time on March 19th, 2025. Odds may now differ.

Hard to convince me there isn’t some value here in the Aussie to win at such high odds. For starters, he’s best in quicker conditions where his serve is less vulnerable and he’s most comfortable. He also possesses the requisite physicality to deal with the conditions typically present in Miami.

Then there’s the fact that not only does Medjedovic typically struggle with that element of his game, but there’s also a question about how his leg will hold up. After all, the last time we saw him, he was limping between points as he gutted out a win against Stefanos Tsitsipas before withdrawing from the tournament. He hasn’t played since.

He does have some weapons in the form of his serve and forehand and just in case he is healthy and ready to go, I don’t want to overreact to the fact he was injured last time we saw him play, but even if he is good to go, there’s enough in this matchup to make me like Hijikata at over 2.60 odds.

Hamad Medjedovic Recent Form

Medjedovic began his season looking to reach the top-100 for the first time and chose to skip the Australian summer of tennis to focus on weaker Challenger fields in Europe with almost everyone down under looking to qualify for the Australian Open a pick up that first round money that players in this ranking range covet.

That worked, with a title in Oeiras, a quarterfinal the next week and then a run to the final in Marseille on the main circuit.

We’ve been waiting for this kind of breakthrough from the 21-year-old for quite some time and the start to 2025 appeared to be him announcing himself to the tennis world. That’s before he suffered that injury that barely allowed him to get by Tsitsipas and forced him to withdraw prior to his match with Felix Auger Aliassime.

The serve and forehand are serious threats on a quicker court, but his movement and endurance has always been a question and with the added concern about his fitness heading into this tournament, I’m interested to see if he can find a win against a tough opponent that won’t give him much.

Rinky Hijikata Recent Form

The world No. 86 has been playing week-in, week-out on the main tour for almost all of the 2025 campaign, but it hasn’t been going all that well.

Though he works hard and on quicker courts can generate some pop, he is underpowered relative to a lot of the ATP Tour and as a result, he’s found it tough to string wins together.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s played some competitive matches against good players with power in Alexander Bublik and Tomas Machac and I think he’s far from a pushover. That said, stringing two or three wins together against the calibre of player that is found on the main circuit is going to be tough for a guy that is somewhat limited.

Luckily for him, in this matchup he has a few things going for him, even if he will struggle to wrangle control of points away from the young Serbian and dictate play himself. Undervalued underdog in my opinion.

Hamad Medjedovic vs Rinky Hijikata H2H – Stat of the Match

This will be the first meeting between the two players that employ pretty different styles and approaches. It will be fun to see who comes out on top.
