The first round of the ATX Open kicks off main draw play on Monday in the great State of Texas, and McCartney Kessler will face fellow American Caty McNally to open the event.

The weather in Austin is heating up just in time for the main draw to begin. The cold temperatures that have engulfed the lower 48 States lately will ease up to offer a lovely 72-degree day and warmer weather is expected throughout the week.

Kessler arrives at this WTA250 event carrying the five-seed and is strongly favored to defeat her American counterpart in the opening round with odds nearing -400.

McCartney Kessler has started the 2025 campaign with some quality wins, including the victory over Coco Gauff in Dubai last week.

The 25-year-old American has already claimed the Hobart title this season and landed a favorable draw in the bottom bracket to make a nice run in Austin this week. The 5-seeded Kessler starts the week ranked 53rd and can crack the top 50 for the first time in her career.

It all starts with what should be a convincing win over 509th-ranked Caty McNally.

McNally has only competed in three events this season and is 1 – 2 with one event left to finish. Oddly, McNally is still competing at the WTA50 Spring ITF event which will conclude later. McNally will face Katherine Sebov in the quarterfinals when that tournament resumes.

McNally didn’t finish the match with Kayla Cross after going down 4 – 0 to open the event in Rome, GA, after losing her only match at the Australian Open.

I know McCartney Kessler will not take McNally lightly. With the handicap sitting at -4.5 games, the total is 20.5 but I am bringing that down to get a better price.

The Correct Score prop for Kessler to sweep McNally is -120, but there is more value in this under 19.5 games at +110. 

McNally isn’t taking a set from Kessler, and I will predict a 6 – 3, 6 – 2 win for the favorite. Play the lines accordingly to get the best prices on your props.

MCCARTNEY KESSLER RECENT FORM

McCartney Kessler is 10 – 5 in 2025 with a title win at Hobart early in the campaign.

Kessler was taken out of Dubai against Karolina Muchova but defeated Amanda Anisimova and Coco Gauff before bowing out of the event.

The Georgia native who attended Florida went 39 – 22 earning four titles (3 ITF) in 2024 including her first WTA win in Cleveland.

Kessler has an 83 – 48 record since 2023.

CATY MCNALLY RECENT FORM

Caty McNally spent 2024 out of the top 500 and only competed in 13 matches last season. The American went 5 – 0 on clay in the only tournament appearance on the dirt to finish the 2024 campaign at WTA50 in Miami.

McNally was last ranked inside the top 100 during the 2022 campaign (93rd, and is 25 – 20 since 2023.
