Martina Trevisan vs Bernarda Pera Western and Southern Open Preview and Expert Tip
Martina Trevisan vs Bernarda Pera (Western and Southern Open): Tuesday, August 15th
A second wager that sees one of the players withdraw in the span of a few days. This time it’s Elina Svitolina who withdraws from Cincinnati, voiding our Monday wager.
For our WTA preview for the tennis at the Western & Southern Open, let’s jump into the Martina Trevisan vs Bernarda Pera match.
Martina Trevisan vs Bernarda Pera Expert Tip
Despite her run to the main draw through qualifying, I’m not sold on Trevisan in this matchup. I’m certainly not enough of a believer to have her as the favourite against the big-hitting Pera.
The American may not have much form of her own to tout at the moment, Pera has always been a streaky player, prone to runs of phenomenal form, followed by lulls that see her struggle to string wins together.
That makes her a tough player to bet as a favourite, but as an underdog – against the right opponent – she can be a strong player to back.
This is one such case.

- Expert Tip: Pera to win at 2.19 with Pinnacle, using 2/10 stakes.
Martina Trevisan Recent Form
Despite her two wins to get into the main draw of the Western & Southern Open, Trevisan isn’t the most adept player on hard courts.
Her lack of power can leave her vulnerable on quicker surfaces, and the heavy topspin that works so well to extend rallies, coax errors from opponents and get kick on the ball that can push opponents back behind the baseline, doesn’t serve that purpose nearly as well on hard courts and many times just kicks up into an opponent’s strike zone.
That isn’t ideal against a powerful, aggressive baseliner like Pera.
Then there’s the fact that outside of an outlier win in January against Maria Sakkari and another over the mercurial Jelena Ostapenko, we really haven’t seen many high-quality victories from her on a hard court this year.
Even in the final round of qualifying, she had to come back from 1-4 down in the third set against another American lefty in Taylor Townsend.
Bernarda Pera Recent Form
Pera has had some struggles of her own.
After reaching the quarterfinals on clay in Hamburg, she’s lost her last two matches against Leylah Fernandez and Yulia Putintseva. The difference between them and Trevisan, however, is that they’re both natural hard courters, while also being able to wait out errors from erratic competition.
On a quicker surface, Pera could’ve been in trouble against another player with pace on their groundstrokes that could rush her and take her time to set up her own shots away.
With Trevisan, Pera should have the requisite time to set up her groundstrokes and find winners from the baseline.
Martina Trevisan vs Bernarda Pera H2H – Stat of the Match
These two have only met once, though it wasn’t really anything worth reading into. Pera beat the Italian in straight sets, but it was all the way back in 2017, on a clay court and down at the ITF level.
Statistically, it’s the Trevisan second serve that illustrates why she may be in trouble against an aggressive-minded player like Pera.
In the last 52 weeks on hard courts at the top level, she’s won just 40% of points behind her second serve. If those underpowered serves are going to sit up for Pera to punish, the 28-year-old will be all too willing to do just that.
