Marta Kostyuk will face Donna Vekic in the quarterfinals at the 2024 Summer Olympics on Wednesday at Roland Garros in Paris, France.

In an evenly-matched affair, the Croatian National is listed as the slight favorite with odds at -140 to reach the semis, as the Olympic quarterfinal features ladies ranked only two spots apart.

Marta Kostyuk passed through the third round providing an upset over Maria Sakkari on Tuesday, and our resident Women’s tennis expert called for it to happen with odds at +170.

Marta Kostyuk vs Donna Vekic Prediction: A Spot in the Semis At Stake

  • Prediction: Marta Kostyuk Moneyline
  • Best Odds: +120
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time July 31, 2024.

Marta Kostyuk did exactly what we thought she would on Tuesday out-dueling Maria Sakkari in the third round of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games.

The +170 ticket was a lovely hit and the Ukrainian is the underdog again facing odds at +120 to land in the semifinal. Ranked 19th and 21st on the WTA Tour, Kostyuk (12) and Vekic (13) were seeded alongside each other when the draw came out but it would have been tough to predict this matchup before the global tourney started.

Donna Vekic also provided quite an upset on Tuesday over Coco Gauff as a +450 underdog and the Croatian made it look easy. After a first-set tie-break win over the American, Vekic broke Gauff on all three of her final trio of serves to pass through to the quarters.

Marta lost the first set to Sakkari, 6 – 4, and then the Greece native did what she does best. Choke! Kostyuk forced a third set and broke Sakkari four times in the final stanza including her last two serves of the match to clinch the win.

While we expected Sakkari to fold like a lawn chair, let’s also credit Kostyuk for earning a win against a top-10-ranked opponent in Paris to land this quarterfinal position.

Someone has to win because yesterday is a thing of the past after both found unlikely wins as underdogs. If this match were on grass, I would be all over Vekic like white on rice but on the clay, I have the Ukrainian to advance at +120.

MARTA KOSTYUK RECENT FORM

Marta Kostyuk has dropped only one set at the Paris Olympics and the Ukrainian recovered well against Sakkari after the first set loss on Tuesday.

Kostyuk and Sakkari were extremely nervous out of the gate with seven breaks of serve between them in the first set. Marta could only save 2 of 12 breakpoints in the third round against the top-10-ranked Greek but her return of serve saved her bacon.

Kostyuk has a career record of 54 – 32 on clay and is 8 – 4 during this campaign on the dirt.

DONNA VEKIC RECENT FORM

Donna Vekic just came off a nice run to the Wimbledon semifinals before the Olympic Games in Paris and completed the grass portion of the campaign at 10 – 4.

Clay has never been a strength for Vekic as she is chasing her first title at any level on the dirt but has a positive record on all three surfaces for the third straight season. Vekic and her doubles partner had to withdraw from the event yesterday so Vekic can hope to medal as a singles player in Paris.

Vekic has a career record of 50 – 52 on clay but is 6 – 4 this year carrying her first three-match win streak on the dirt since the 2022 French Open.

KOSTYUK VS VEKIC H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

The only meeting between these two ladies happened on clay this year and Vekic was the better player that day. The clash was here at Roland Garros this season in the early stages and Vekic mounted a 7 – 5, 6 – 4 victory.
