Marketa Vondrousova returns to action at the Abu Dhabi Open and the Czech Republic native is favored to defeat Emma Raducanu in the first round of this WTA500 event in UAE.

At -130 to advance, Vondrousova was last seen removing herself from the Adelaide International and was forced to skip the Australian Open.

Raducanu is trying to overcome a devastating loss at Singapore and a two-match losing skid entering this event.

EJ Garr’s prediction for Marketa Vondrousova vs. Emma Raducanu features odds at -105 which you can find below.

Marketa Vondrousova vs Emma Raducanu WTA Abu Dhabi Open Prediction: An Early First-Round Payout

  • Prediction: First-set Over 9.5 Games
  • Best Odds: -105
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on February 4, 2025. Odds may now differ.

The first question we have to ask is if Marketa Vondrousova will get through a match.

Vondrousova’s 2024 campaign ended at Wimbledon and off-season shoulder surgery has been a difficult ordeal for the former World’s #7.

The current #37 made her first appearance in 2025 at Adelaide. After one win against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, she retired from her match with Diana Shnaider and has been getting back to game shape over the last month.

With nearly a month off for Vondrousova, it is fair to question the durability and status of the Czech native coming into Abu Dhabi.

Under normal conditions, the line setters would never give away Vondrousova at -130 with her power and accuracy driving balls past opponents. That heavy ball earned her 41 wins and a top 10 ranking in 2023 but with hand injuries and the shoulder issue, it’s been a long road back for Vondrousova.

Emma Raducanu ended the 2024 season with a 3 – 0 effort at the Billie Jean King Cup for her country. The Brit didn’t enter one tournament to prepare for the Australian Open and after two wins at the first Major of the season, she was sent packing.

With 10 days off to prepare for Singapore, Raducanu was a -350 favorite against Cristina Bucsa. The underdog overachieved and upset the favorite in three sets after Raducanu won the opening frame. Now facing a two-match slide, Raducanu lacks confidence despite wins over Ekaterina Alexandrova and Amanda Anisimova at the Aussie Open.

I foresee a 6 – 4 first set that gives us 10 games to cash the Over 9.5 at -105.

MARKETA VONDROUSOVA RECENT FORM

Vondrousova is 1 – 1 in 2025 following up a shortened 2024 campaign. With a 16 – 11 record after Wimbledon, Vondrousova underwent shoulder surgery and didn’t return to action until Adelaide (August to January).

The Czech Republic native had a career-high 41 wins in 2023 and reached 7th in the WTA Rankings. Despite the lengthy absence, Vondrousova has remained in the top 40 but needs to prove why she belongs there with some wins!

EMMA RADUCANU RECENT FORM

Emma Raducanu has proven she can hang with formidable opponents after the two wins against Anisimova and Alexandrova at the Australian Open.

How far has her confidence fallen after the loss to Bucsa? That shouldn’t have happened especially after winning the first set.

Vondrousova is no cupcake whether she is 100% and  Emma needs to push her opponent today to test that shoulder.

As long as Raducanu can get off to a good start early, she can keep the first set close and hope to find a break of serve.

VONDROUSOVA VS RADUCANU HTH –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Vondrousova and Raducanu have faced each other twice on the WTA Tour.

As part of Raducanu’s run to the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2021, Vondrousova was a victim of the Brit in the early rounds.

In 2022, Vondrousova defeated Raducanu at the Billie Jean King Cup in straight sets to level the series.

The winner of this match will face 4-seed Yulia Putintseva in the second round of the Abu Dhabi Open.
